I wouldn't say its up there with Mononoke and SA but its a great film, not one of my favorites from Miyazaki, though.

I absolutely loved this. Castle In The Sky will be soaring right up my Top 100 with ease. It's probably my favorite non-Disney Classic animated films (though I enjoyed it better than many of those) actually. And I so cannot wait until I can finally see Spirited Away, Totoro, Mononoke, and then Ponyo either late this year or next year. I'm almost certain Ponyo is going to be just amazing since it's based partly on Hans Christian Anderson's The Little Mermaid tale, and Disney's The Little Mermaid is my second favorite movie of all time. This one, while beautiful to look at, didn't work on the story side for me. I consider it to be in the lower tier of Miyazaki films, well below the big three (Totoro, Kiki, Spirited Away)...

Now this was a grand adventure. I've been wanting to see this for many years, but put it off for reasons. Would place it in the top tier of Miyazaki with Mononoke and Spirited. Also has a case for the best animated movie of the 1980s, though I'd probably stick with The Great Mouse Detective until further viewings. Or Scooby-Doo and The Reluctant Werewolf of course.
Just really liked all the characters, from our heroic kids to the goofy pirates, the destructive yet empathetic robots and even the bumbling/sinister military villains. You can also see the birth of the Final Fantasy on screen. And you can hear it as well. What a great score!
9/10

Have you watched Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind? I feel it'll up there with those films for you, too.
