Re: This or That thread - Christmas edition
I can't say I have a preference. They're just colours. What does one associate with green? money, nature, envy. And with red? anger, passion, communism. I'll go green then

Vote Guillotine - I think getting your head cut off is a nice balance between being fast/painless but still being scary for criminals compared to letting them die the same way as voluntary euthanasia people in lethal injection. I can be talked into the chair and maxing out the fear factor if it saves a few more lives.

I'm not voting, because I can't choose and don't really care. I don't care too much about the cruelty of it, just whichever is the cheapest for the tax payer I'm in favor of.

I vote Epstein, just leave them alone in a room and let them choose, no audience, that they know of.
Now that’s a 20 million horror movie opener right there for free.

Re: This or That thread - #19
Vote Korean, great at meat and they're the only ones that have made me understand the appeal of spicy food. I remember the first time going it felt like being in a Kpop sauna.
Japan has a masterpiece in sushi though I'm not sure I've tried much else. Indian mostly lures me in with buffets but that's cool, and butter chicken is a superstar. I never became a Chinese food guy but maybe one day in my life. Viet and Thai don't care, seems like the type of places you go when you're a vegetarian.

I voted Chinese but mostly just go to Bibibop for "asian-fusion" rice bowls and often switch the contents up. The one constant is teriyaki sauce so I probably should have voted Japanese.

Re: This or That thread - #19
Having tried so much of the Chinese cuisine and loving most of it, this is one of the easiest questions for me. Japanese and Korean is totally tasty too, enjoyed my share of Vietnamese and Indian as well, but I don't know all of their kitchens as much, it's just not a fair comparison either actually. Just Thai, which is fine too, is the only one I've not been impressed by.

Re: This or That thread - #19
I like all of them but having lived there I've tried way more Chinese food so that got my vote. Indian style is something that aligns with my eating habits, and Japanese precision and beauty are also a big pull. But I would say Chinese cuisine is more broad, and although they also make a lot of crap I always found something to my liking.

1. Indian 2. Malaysian 3. Vietnamese (mainly for the Banh Mi pork rolls) 4. Korean (for the BBQ meat, fried chicken and kimchi) 5. Japanese (for the sashimi mainly) 6. Chinese (liking spicy hot pot of late) 7. Thai (bit too sweet for me but good)

Re: This or That thread - #20
I'll always be most sentimental to early 2000s pop rock which is the era I grew up in
Pop punk - Offspring, Blink 182, Green Day, etc. Pop grunge - Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, etc. Nu Metal - Linkin Park, POD, etc. Garage band - The Strokes, The White Stripes, etc. Indie bands - Death Cab, Arcade Fire, etc. Goth vibes - MCR, Evanescence, etc. Previous gen bands - U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.
+ Some others I didn't group like The Killers, Coldplay, Weezer, Jimmy Eat World, Foo Fighters, etc.
It's amazing to compare it to now, who is the most famous rock bands who's first album is in the last 10 years (so no Imagine Dragons, Vampire Weekend, Mumford, Florence, etc.) The decline is kind of remarkable.

Re: This or That thread - #20
Well to be fair there are probably zero bands of any kind on the hot 100 right now. Not even the Coldplay or Imagine Dragons of the world make it anymore. It's just easier to market and manage solo stars in the internet era.

Re: This or That thread - #20
I've never heard it called Hair Metal before. I just know it as Glam Rock or Glam Metal. Anyway, The Darkness is better than any grunge band, so I went for Hair Metal, even though when I saw the options I immediately went grunge.

stuffp suggested a poll but we were workshopping it
Meanwhile people can vote in my "Were the nukes justified?" thread in the politics forum, although the thread has since been filled by DP07 replies

stuffp's suggestion was which had a bigger impact on the world between covid and 9/11. I thought it might be a little too easy to pick the world, but if someone has a slightly tweaked version of a covid vs ? poll they can suggest it.
Meanwhile we'll try a little time machine poll

Re: This or That thread - #21
An often thought of proposal I feel, and while the future sounds interesting, when I was younger and saw Back to Future, that's what I wanted. But ever since an adult I feel there is so much charm in the past and in history, I'd rather live through some of that than find out about the unknown. Also, currently the future looks kind of bleak but maybe that's just "old" person talk.

The past, easily. It's not even close. Life only gets harder, never easier.

Re: This or That thread - #21
What time travel rules are we using? Can I go back in time and have everything happen exactly the same way as it did the first time around? Or does going back in time change the timeline so its basically just like living life again without any advantages?
If I could instantly make myself an immortal billionaire by going back then that way.
If not then I'd go to the future just to check it out and watch all the new movies.
