Re: The Holdovers
I REALLY loved it. I wasn't sure what to expect but somehow they re-captured the magic of Sideways and made an instant classic here. I don't necessarily think this will make a huge amount of $ but hope it does over the holidays. It very much is a Christmas movie which was actually a fun element about it coming out this time of year.
it was perfectly cast and very endearing. The dialogue was great and pretty hilarious at times. Paul Giamatti is sensational. Heartfelt, tackling difficult issues, but a big home run.

Re: The Holdovers
The Holdovers is an unpretentious and old school coming of age drama that believably captures the era it was supposed to take place in. The characters feel like real people and overall it is heartwarming.

Re: The Holdovers
Same to all reviews above. This was very good old school coming-of-age Christmas drama with genuine people and real emotions. Wish Paul Giamatti gets a nomination for this.

Re: The Holdovers
This is a pretty strong movie. A slice of life character study and an award worthy (in a normal year) performance from Paul Giamatti. Feels like real people doing real things.

Re: The Holdovers
Payne does a nice job directing it with the 70s music montages and general "movies that don't get made anymore vibe", albeit the screenplay feels a little slight for a movie. Giamatti's performance peaks at the end. Solid enough but not spectacular.

Re: The Holdovers
Payne's best since Sideways. I love the 70s setting and aesthetic.
