Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Trailer is finally coming in 4 days. Footage looks cool so idk, hopefully it's at least entertaining, can it really be that awful ... (... yes but idk)

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
I am so done with these SH movies. Dont care either for MCU or DCEU or anything else. That said visually this is more pleasing than Flash. Still this has everything going against it despite this holidays not being that strong. I am expecting Wonka to win the holiday season comfortably but there is room for more than one movie to do well during holidays. Let us see how the buzz is close to release.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
As much as the DCEU or whatever it's called is tired and audiences are over it, this is still the sequel to a fairly well-received $1.1B movie.
I would not be shocked if it does $600M+ just because of sheer momentum from the first one.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
I think the footage shown so far looks decent and it's going to be massive ... but I was dead wrong with The Flash so I'm going against myself here and saying it's a bomb waiting to happen.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
The holidays are very forgiving for films destined to flop at other times of the year.
People have a lot of time on their hands and really just have Color Purple, Aquaman, Migration and Wonka. Wonka will probably be the top film followed by Aquaman by default (or also if Wonka sells out).
If a reviled movie like Passengers can do $100M off of a $15M 3day and bad reviews and audience reception, Aquaman should be able to at least beat The Flash.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
There is literally no competition as bad off the DCEU is, wonka is looks atrocious, and will probably finish right around 100, this should be able to do at least Sherlock 2 numbers

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Wonka is following the script of the generic looking movies of the past 20 years that make gazillions over the holidays due to their family appeal. It would need to open under $15M IMO not to do $100M.
Mary Poppins Returns pulled $171,958,438 5 years ago. If it opened any other time of year I could have seen a $70-80M run.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Uh lol yeah Wonka looks like a smash.
Opening that and Aquaman so close together seems idiotic but WB will be WB. I guess there's enough room for both to do well but yeesh

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Yeah whether the trailer was good or not is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that Wonka looks Christmasy and that will bring in the big money.
I expect this Aquaman trailer will set the net on fire for a few days, the same way that The Flash trailer did when they revealed Keaton was back (a mistake in hindsight, should've made audiences pay to see him.) By December no one will care, but it'll still have a decent gross thanks to all the boosted days that come with the season.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
They are probably putting Aquaman there so that the success of Wonka papers over its failure and doesn't result in any execs getting fired lol

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Think they avoided shifting to 2024 since it's also a good candidate for a tax writeoff maybe? At least DC will keep the accountants busy over at WB.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Hm. If DC was not in the shape its in and various early reports of awful test screenings I would say this would beat the first domestic. The trailer looks cool and I see it doing $200m+ domestic given the Christmas release so we'll see.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Passengers pulling $100M from a $14M 3day despite it being reviled gives me hope of $150M at least here. The holidays are ultra forgiving and Aquaman is more accessible to a wider audience base than Passengers was. People are going to need to watch something.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
I don't see how it doesn't make at least $150M. People hate DC but they didn't necessarily hate the first Aquaman. There's just too much momentum from the first movie for it to flop that badly IMO. You could say what about Wonder Woman 1984 but that had COVID + HBO Max day and date release, it was botched beyond belief which is not the scenario here.
I think it will make $150M+ in its first thirteen days (December 20th to January 1st). $220M+ total. Worldwide over $650M.

I am so done with these generic SH movies. I am predicting both Marvels and this movie to underperform big time.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
I could see a scenario where this does moderately well (due to Christmas legs) but The Marvels bombs. I just don't see the appeal for it. I saw a poster yesterday and it looks so f*cking lame. The whole Feminism Fuck Yeah angle won't work again, at least not to the tune of $400 bloody million. It's definitely one of those "well the first did well so we HAVE to make a sequel" movies, and I don't feel any anticipation. I also don't think anyone who worked on it cared what they were doing, lol. Whereas Aquaman looks cool and it has the holidays.
A movie coming out with the MCU badge doesn't mean anything anymore. The Marvels could flirt with Quantumania's gross.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
I've now been seeing spots for it and they make it look worse. They show things such as him hanging up his laundry and him with a baby that just nudge it towards embarrassing and "potential disaster on the cards". Although I still think this will be crowd-pleasing more than crowd-scaring, if it came out and did a Flash I wouldn't be shocked.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
The Flash looked like a hit when the trailer came out to me and we know what happened, ultimately the pre-Gunn DCEU is just a dead man walking in addition to overall superhero problems, leading their only audience to be the DC fanboys. Sub 150 mil total, maybe sub 100.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
First movie worked because it was fun - trailer of second movie shows none of the fun, just the basic superhero fighting - very bad trailer i.m.o.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
I still think about $200m is the ceiling all things considered. It really depends on what audiences flock to at Christmas. If Wonka/Migration/Ferrari all over index - could keep this to the lower end of expectations.

Re: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom predictions
Just when you thought buzz for Aquaman could only improve this story came out today. Interesting how its being released the same day as the full trailer. -Depp fans paid court fees for the release of documents from Heard’s therapist. They describe a hostile “Aquaman” set where an allegedly intoxicated Jason Momoa dressed like Depp and pushed to have Heard booted from the role of aquatic superhero Mera. -The studio never ended up firing Heard because her former boyfriend, Elon Musk, had one of his litigators send a “scorched-earth letter to Warner Bros. if the actress wasn’t brought back for a sequel. -Some on the WB lot are convinced that another company, most likely Universal, will buy Warner Bros. within two years. -This summer, Momoa unfollowed Heard on Instagram. One source says he even blocked Heard from following him. https://variety.com/2023/film/news/aqua ... 235747775/The holidays will still save it from a complete failure but this feels like its reaching all time worst buzz level territory.
