Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
That would be pretty solid.
Its becomes the film to beat Barbie and then have solid WOM where it humiliates The Flash

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
I don't think that's bad. 25-30 Million is a solid start.
Strays did horrible though.

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
Blue Beetle outopening Shazam and having a total surpassing The Flash would be a funny way to round out the summer. I was keeping an eye on preview showings of Strays and they really weren't doing that great. Feels like the marketing on this one was very lackluster and poor reviews didn't help. Probably will find an audience on streaming. Gran Turismo also looks like it will do decently so along with Equalizer 3 would have another movie do $25m+ possibly nearly every weekend since Ant Man opened in February. Only the June 23-25th weekend we dipped below (post Flash/Elemental) with $19M win for Spider-verse.

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
I've been seeing some late marketing for Strays and they're now really stressing the fact that this is R-rated.

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
Only 4 movies have had 5th weekends that are $20M+ (start wide and non-Dec).
1 Top Gun: Maverick $29,614,139 2 Black Panther $26,650,690 3 The Sixth Sense $22,896,967 4 The Avengers $20,486,418
Barbie will be only the 5th!

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
It's a shame Strays bombed since the reviews make it sound like a true throwback raunchiness wise.

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
Barbie's run is incredible. I'm surprised though it's only had 1 day of its 29 day run so far with a week to week drop under 32%.
For a zeitgeist movie, assuming it will start to get those under 25% drops soon. Needs $107.6M from Friday on to get to #10 on the domestic list.
$20.2M this weekend from a 38% drop would need a 5.33X multiplier.
Hoping for a big Labor Day boost.

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
Blue Beetle will probably open mid 20s... yeah not good. Curious about how it'll hold, B+ Cinemascore is kinda surprising.hopefully it at least beats Shazam 2.

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
Yeah apparently 38% of the audience was Hispanic and gave it a 90% score (equivalent of an A).
However, 27% of the audience was Caucasian and this group gave it a 75% score.

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
Strays flopped badly. Given the talent involved, this movie seems like a textbook case of one that probably would have benefitted from the cast being able to promote it. Might not be worth releasing comedies during the strike as they seem more reliant on cast push for buzz.
Not horrible for Blue Beetle as it's topped Barbie but not sure if it will be able to leg it or fizzle out. Beating Shazam is a certainty though.
MI now has a $9M gap on IJ5. Would be something to pass it. Some of these "legs" look questionable though given the high theater loss. That gap was $13m last weekend and $19M just two weekends ago and $28M 3 weekends ago.

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
We had lowered expectations but seems like it will still be an L for a 100 mil budget film.

For a zeitgeist movie, assuming it will start to get those under 25% drops soon. I’m not sure why the legs would change now, drops have been pretty consistently “good/great” not “amazing.” I think there’s a natural drop off and at some point a movie becomes less and less relevant (with less and less untapped market to sell tickets to). Even movies with phenomenal WoM runs (Puss in Boots 2) at some point naturally fizzle out and start displaying bigger than previous drops.

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
Barbie's run has been spread out pretty well by its weekdays, it's already at 3.5 multiplier. And its the 10th biggest 5th weekend.

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
What are we looking at.....70% drop for BB? Maybe higher?
Black Adam - 59% drop Shazam 2 - 69% drop Flash - 72% drop

Re: Blue Beetle weekend thread
Barbie needs a 5.01X multiplier to get to #10 on the domestic list this weekend on. Looking very difficult without some crazy good drop or increase soon!
