Re: Sound of Freedom final gross predictions
Don't Look Up is terrible though. Doesn't seem like a fair exchange if Sound of Freedom is actually good.

Let's keep the discussion towards BO or we lock this thread!!!!! I will create a thread in politics forum if people want to discuss that aspect of it there Sounds good. Let's take it there because of these discussions belong there and some do not belong in this forum.

Re: Sound of Freedom final gross predictions
Agreed, Jack.
Back to the box-office discussion.
Sound of Freedom enjoyed a fantastic Tuesday at $5.4M. +10%
Probably due to the older crowd catching matinees.
This could have a Greatest Showman run in terms of staying power. We'll see.

Re: Sound of Freedom final gross predictions
$200M is looking more and more likely for Sound of Freedom. Unless there is a cliff for this audience. Perhaps some marketing dollars will be warranted if it looks like a crash is coming.
In other news, I was all in on O’s $300M or bust for Little Mermaid train. Not sure why Disney let it crater so close to the finish line. Perhaps no choice due to theater scarcity?

Re: Sound of Freedom final gross predictions
Mermaid will still be fine to do $300M. From holdover weekends it would probably get to about $298.5M. With Haunted Mansion will probably get a bump. Then we have summer weekdays and likely some type of Labor Day bump when summer's biggest hits get re-releases. If it were at $290M I'd be worried but needs $3.9M and it's PTA only dropped 25.4% so losing 62% of its theaters would be hard to withstand a better hold.

No way Disney lets it die before 300

Re: Sound of Freedom final gross predictions
It's actually tracking to $202M assuming 26% drops from here on out. Of course if it drops, it'll miss that mark. The fact that we're having this conversation is surreal.
I keep coming back to this stat: Sound of Freedom had the all-time greatest 2nd weekend increase, outside of holidays. Ever. I love films with weird legs like this (MBFGW, Sixth Sense, etc.).

Surreal is the right word. It's as if Left Behind made $100 million. These things just do not happen.

Re: Sound of Freedom final gross predictions
It shows the power of controlling the narrative. Crowdfunding might be the future for box office, particularly with PSA type movies like this.

With these actuals, I think $200M will be a tough bar to reach. It's tracking to $197M with the same holds from here on out. Still, $175M-$200M is an achievement.

Re: Sound of Freedom final gross predictions
Yeah, I'm also very pleased it has happened. It's a much more interesting box office success story than, say, Barbie, for me at least. It feels more grassroots and unusual, instead of throwing a $100m marketing and influencer campaign behind a tentpole.
And inevitably we'll be inundated with attempts at replicating its success. Not sure how that will work. Not even sure the inevitable "Sound of Freedom 2" will make quarter of what this one does.

Yes indeed. It's quite amazing and unique. You get something like this once or twice a decade. So rare.

Ah well. Still, $180m+ is a great accomplishment.
