So... 2023 (Yearly) is looking like:

1. Blue Lock (~10-11m)
2. One Piece (~7m)
3. Jujutsu Kaisen (~6.5-7m)
4. Chainsaw Man (~5.5m)
5. Oshi no Ko (~5m?)

Maybe? Blue Lock at #1 is, well, a lock. OP and JJK are somewhat close, but edge OP as long as both release one more volume in the year. I have CSM above ONK since it has a new volume out next month that should take the series up to around ~5.5m for the year. Idk if ONK can move 2/2.5m more, most of which would have to be from backlog, right?

Spy x Family has enough chapters out for another volume this year, but I don't see one scheduled. If one comes out though, maybe the early movie hype can give it a little boost and push the backlog a bit to give it top 5 potential. (Doesn't look likely to me though.) I assume it'll have a big 2024 following the movie release.

And it seems MHA will miss the top 5. First year it'll miss 5 million in a really long time. 2015, right? But it also might be missing a volume this year. I recall seeing some news the author has had health issues and has taken a number of breaks.

Jujutsu Kaisen vs One Piece will depend on the JJK season 2 boost
(and mayyyybe the One Piece Netflix boost, but there shouldn't be any actual expectations for it in Japan imo).

The rest seems good, yeah. Maybe if Oshi no Ko crashes completely, it could get outdone by Slam Dunk, since I think SD will barely miss the 5M mark.

And yes, MHA will be quite low, but it does not help that it will only have 3 new volumes this year, instead of the usual 4 (because of the breaks, as you said).

Other things to look up to will be the battle for the 9th/10th spots. BL, OP, JJK, CSM, OnK, SD, MHA, SxF make 8 guaranteed top 10 manga.

Kingdom is selling worse than we've seen since the Ame Talk boost from 2015, but with one new volume releasing this week and hopefully another new one before the end of the year, it should get the 9th spot.
There is Tokyo Revengers, which has nothing left but still sells decently every week (but for how long?).

The Summer season for anime is weak, so I wouldn't expect anything from it. But the fall season, however, has two series that could grow quite a lot.
First is The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto). It has the massive advantage of having two different manga (from two different publishers...) but being combined into one spot by Oricon for the yearly ranking. So that's 29 volumes that could get a boost.
Second is Frieren. It has way fewer volumes (and suffers from a hiatus), but with a 2 hours-long premiere, maybe it could receive a similar buzz to what Oshi no Ko had (since the strategy is so similar).

That's imo 4 series which could all realistically reach the top 10 by the end of the year. The first two's placement mainly depending on the weakness of the latter two's anime boosts.

I thought for sure that One Piece had released 3 volumes this year but looking it up, it's only 2. That means its backlog sales are nearly 2 million and we are just at 3/5th of the (oricon) year. Those backlog sales seem unusually strong to me. Is it still the effect of the Film Red movie being felt one year later, or did vol.104 just have a lot of spillover sales into this year?

Both.
The Film Red effect was still very strong in December/January, with like 750k backlog sales (not counting 104) achieved in these two months. It gradually diminished the following months, but that was still enough to give it a huge head start for the entire year.
And also, volume 104 sold 360k units in the first half of the year, so a large chunk of its sales happened this year due to the November release.

Now, backlog sales are back to what was more or less the norm in early-2022: 25k per week or so.
