Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Now that the video game IP era has started, how will the big one get adapted?

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
It will be an animated movie for sure. If Super Mario Bros hits $300M, which it probably will, the Smash Bros Cinematic Universe will begin. Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid and Star Fox will all have movies within a few years.
The success of The Last of Us will get more serious adaptations onto the small screen. Mass Effect, God of War, Bioshock, etc...

An animated film in the line of Super Mario Bros seems most likely

It should be an animation movie directed NOT by Peter Jackson

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
A live action adaptation would be indistinguishable from other fantasy franchises. Animation will give it flavor.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
The serious tone makes for an awkward fit with Super Mario Bros universe, and Zelda being turned into Illumination style humor movie to make it work would be a bummer. Mario throwing the ball to DK like a Seahawks game, CGI Pokemon with Ash, and others like Star Fox and Kirby being thrown in as supporting characters along the way to set up the future Super Smash Bros makes more sense. They could be bold and do a relative serious animation adaptation, though
I really think a live action Zelda tv series would be a huge event, bigger than LOTR. But if it was on Amazon it would almost surely be good visuals mediocre writing which is brand damage that Nintendo doesn't want. Bezos is trying to talk them into it like the guy in "Baby It's Cold Outside". It looks like Nintendo and Disney might be too big of competitors to do this. Nintendo can't have an HBO series that opens with a bedframe shaking and the sound of HYEH HYEH HYEH.
I'm hoping for Peter Jackson live action trilogy as a defender of the Hobbit trilogy. He needs to get back on the horse. The best streaming service AppleTV would also be great.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Universal owns Illumination and Dreamworks right? So the two could go back and forth to keep things fresh. Illumination gets Mario, Donkey Kong and Kirby while DW gets Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox. Not sure what they'd do with Pokemon. They just need everyone from the original game teaming up against the master hand and they'll get all the money.

That's a good plan, after Mario Bros EXPLODES AT THE BOXOFFICE all those will get fast tracked

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Nintendo has been pretty guarded with any of their big characters getting adapted, although I guess the original Mario movie and those late 80s cartoons are probably a big reason why. I get the argument that a live action version of Zelda would just end up being like LOTR/GOT in its look, although I'd still dig the heck out of a live action Zelda.
The problem with an animated version in the same vein as the new Mario is if they go more cute with it instead of keeping it serious with a slightly fun tone. I don't see them getting it right.
I also have to realize a 36 year old man with a nostalgic love for Zelda shouldn't be suggesting what will make money for a Zelda adaptation.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
I have moved this thread to Box Office Bash from its previous home TV and reset the poll to reflect new options after Super Mario Bros
I'm sticking with my pick PJ

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Studio Ghibli would do Zelda best, but I fear Nintendo will see the success of the Mario movie and dump all their chips into Illuminations

It does at least I think have to be animated or it will be difficult to have crossovers

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Movies - Animation (Illumination) After SMB tops $1.5 billion + Nintendo will be more than happy to continue working with Illumination on ALL their characters

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Honestly a TV series that somehow threads all the games together (maybe a multi-verse concept?) would probably make the most sense in terms of what would make a complete adaptation.
But I predict it will be live-action movies, not Peter Jackson.

Rings of Power was indescribably boring. Watching House of the Dragon at the same time made it even worse since that series has so much drama and gravitas and hooks you from the first episode. Rings of Power was like very expensive, pretty-looking (but oddly flat and soulless) scenery. Zero dramatic stakes or interesting characters. Or even attractive characters.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Super Mario Bris will be the peak. There will be a bunch of game adaptations that will be hits but most will fall well short of SMB.

This will only do about a third of Mario.

Lol at people underestimating the power of the ZELDA franchise, it has the most loyal fanbase of all.

Re: Predict the Legend of Zelda adaptation
Like Dune or Dungeons and dragons size. It doesn’t have any mainstream appeal to casual audiences, and won’t attract children nearly as much. Link will be way overhyped by the online community
