I'll take The Rundown and Walking Tall over crap like Skyscraper, Central Intelligence and Red Notice any day of the week! Yes 100% The Rock of today is a walking brand. The Rundown (aka Welcome to the Jungle) was fun and Walking Tall was good as well.

The Rock is best as supporting actor to me. He has no classic movies as a lead but that's half action movies not being as popular as they were.

Re: DC 2023 discussion (Gunn directing Superman)
Not to play devils advocate but it needs to be said:
Black Adam making $67m on opening weekend, in hindsight, is fucking excellent and a huge testament to the power of The Rock. Black Adam is an absolute no name hero with zero drawing power. It was 100% sold on The Rock.
This isn't 2016. DC isn't fresh and theaters are still largely recovering from Covid. In 2019. if one had said film 1 for BLACK ADAM will make exactly 50% of what THE BATMAN makes, most would have said that was a very solid, borderline great, performance for film 1. DC is walking away from a serious box office draw if they truly move on from him.

Unfortunately, it's budget was too high however.

Re: DC 2023 discussion (Gunn directing Superman)
I agree on The Rock taking overly safe routes now but his salary is astronomically higher and the audience has been pretty consistent with him.
Red Notice was very bad but if Netflix is throwing a $200M budget and paying The Rock, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot $20M each if we were in that position would you say no?

Yeah Black Adam's opening was solid, idk why people were saying it wasn't good.

He was good in Be Cool and Fast Five, but I like him too much in The Rundown and Walking Tall to say he's better as a support act. It is quite a fail that he has no classic films, though. I hadn't pondered it before but it's true, lol. They're all forgettable popcorn fare. I'd even argue that his most iconic film or role is probably still The Mummy Returns, lol.

Re: DC 2023 discussion (Gunn directing Superman)
we all need to bring out standards back to 2004.
$67m is big weekend no doubt about it. Cavill Superman vs Black Adam would have been a big hit.

This shows the trajectory of DC. The more recent films are in the bottom half.

The way WW84 destroyed its franchise is crazy. Reminds of how Prince Caspian shockingly flopped and derailed Narnia after everyone thought it was the next big thing.

Re: DC 2023 discussion (Gunn directing Superman)
Suicide Squad ad campaign was truly one of the best ever. Had they released a better version of the movie it'd probably do closer to a billion.
WW1984 with no pandemic would've opened huge still.

Re: DC 2023 discussion (Gunn directing Superman)
Yeah WB killed WW and streamed it same time as Justice League Snyder cut. They should have ate it and moved it summer 21 like Bond which still did nearly 800 million at the end of the day. WW in summer 21 probably would have at least done 550+Ww

WW1984 - shockingly bad decision making from WB - even by their poor standard.

Blue Beetle looks surprisingly good, looks better than Black atom and the first shazam

Re: DC 2023 discussion (Gunn directing Superman)
The comments under Blue Beetle’s trailer on YT appear to be written by studio plants. Not only because they are overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic but they read artificial and contrived. It’s probably a covert campaign by the marketing department to drum up support for the movie.

Re: DC 2023 discussion (Gunn directing Superman)
Wasted money there then. Does anyone even read YouTube comments? I may read one if I want clarification on an issue or topic within a video, but for a trailer to see what people thought? ain't nobody got time for dat

I think the online response is good, there are bots on every trailer, but I haven’t seen anyone react badly to it yet. It kind of looks like the freshest superhero movie in a while

Blue Beetle will probably get good reviews based on it being the first latin superhero.

The Flash social media reactions are very positive. I wonder when professional reviews will be up.

lol at how people still care for critics’ opinions however it’s good to see so much praise for this movie, still sad they’re “rebooting” all with Gunn’s toilet joke universe, I’m hoping to be proven wrong though!
