Re: WOKJ Monthly Box Office Contest - August/September
It's odd that we're predicting Fall (limited release) but not Pearl (wide release). But anyway:
Bullet Train - $28m Easter Sunday - $9m Fall - $1.1m Mack & Rita - $4m Bodies Bodies Bodies - $6.5m Beast - $22m Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero - $12m The Invitation - $16m Three Thousand Years of Longing - $7m Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul - $7m Barbarian - $25m The Woman King - $18m Don’t Worry, Darling - $15m Bros - $11m Smile - $15m
That was tough. Took a few risks.

Fall is a bonafide wide release. Much wider than Pearl goes I bet.

The Numbers says wide on their release schedule. But also it's being advertised like a wide release. I'll be surprised if it's limited. But we will see. Guess it will be a gamble for all of us. What are you considering limited though? I heard 800+ theaters. Which is wide. Pearl will probably be 600-1,000 if I had to guess. No way it goes as wide as X. It would be playing to a lot of empty auditoriums. It looks more niche than that movie and that didn't even do 12 Million. I don't know how many who saw it are clamoring for a prequel.

I like your assessment, but I've just watched the Fall teaser and it looks so cheap. It also has a combined Instagram-Twitter following of 1,046 followers. I cannot see Lionsgate risking a wide release on that, can you? Anyway, yes, as you said, it's a gamble for all of us because we simply do not know. Maybe the best thing is to predict like it's getting 600-800 cinemas.

Re: WOKJ Monthly Box Office Contest - August/September
It probably just won't get an aggressive advertising push but will more or less be dumped into that many theaters. Also the teaser trailer is awful. The official trailer is much better and the special effects do not look terrible like they did in the teaser.
They really should have given this a proper advertising push. It could appeal to the same audience that made 47 Meters Down a summer sleeper. There's not even much competition in August. Seems like a missed opportunity. There wasn't even a trailer until June and it was the crappy teaser that was with Jurassic World. That wasn't going to get anyone interested. The official trailer totally sold me though. I'll be looking for the theater that has it on the biggest screen to see it at. Looks like it will be very intense and a lot of fun.
As far as Twitter, Vengeance has 443 followers and just went wide. That seems like a good comparison. Beast only has 657 Twitter followers.

Magic Mike wrote: As far as Twitter, Vengeance has 443 followers and just went wide. That seems like a good comparison. But 4,178 on Instagram, so about four times what Fall currently has between the two sites. Magic Mike wrote: Also the teaser trailer is awful. Magic Mike wrote: There's not even much competition in August. This is what made me go about 10% higher on all my predictions. Hopefully it pays off.

Yeah nobody knew Pearl was releasing in September until the trailer came out this week. They're just being slow to add it to the schedule.

At least if DWD wipes me out it'll happen at the end of the 2 months so I still can feel like I'm in it until then
