Dungeons & Dragons Predictions (March 2023)
I'm on board. Looks to have struck the ideal tone and attitude here.

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Predictions (March 2023)
Looks like it could hit a comedy/adventure sweet spot.
Can't imagine it does huge numbers but something around 40/120 seems doable.

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Predictions (March 2023)
This has flop written all over it. A very formulaic, typically modern fantasy yarn. Dungeons & Dragons is cut from the same cloth as King Arthur, imo, in that it's probably always destined to fail.

Looks better than I thought, not sure Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez is the ideal cast

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Predictions (March 2023)
Another failed attempt to capture LOTR fantasy gold. It should get to $75-100m with a big marketing push but that's nothing great for what looks to be an expensive film and franchise starter.

I love Pine and hope the movie is good. But hard to judge the BO from this trailer alone. Could go either way.

If someone told me this came out in the post-LOTR era, say 2006, when there were countless attempts to cash in on the fantasy blockbuster, I'd believe them. It looks like just another Stardust or Eragon or Bridge to Terabithia or The Golden Compass or Inkheart. I expect it to fare about as well as King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, so mark me down for $40 million domestic.

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Predictions (March 2023)
I hate to do this, because my predictions have tended towards kiss-of-death territory with alarming consistency in recent years, but I’m going to say this will be a hit. $50m opening weekend minimum.

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Predictions (March 2023)
It's clearly going for a spoofy comedy angle, which sets it apart from all those and makes it look fresher

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Predictions (March 2023)
It isn't spoofing the genre at all. It's just adding joviality like all blockbusters do these days. It's doing nothing original.

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Predictions (March 2023)
I think the era of Joss Whedon style writing is over and people want things a little bit more serious now (but not too brooding) kinda like Stranger Things.

Good WOM out of SXSW. Too bad it’s coming out between so many big films. Can’t imagine there’s space for it to do as well as it could have.

This actually looks pretty fun, kinda get the vibe that it's gonna be surprisingly great. I may check it out next week for the Amazon early screenings.

9/9 positive at RT including top critics. Nice. Let us hope its a sleeper hit. We have not had something like this from peak Pirates days.

84 on metacritic. I'm sure they were selective with who got the first screenings, and the final score will be about 10 points lower, but that is still very impressive.

Pretty funny how the short trailer that's being played in theaters rn are using from the directors of Game Night lol but that is a pretty good movie

There are few RT top critics in that list. its not just some online bloggers. I am expecting more reviews as well.

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Predictions (March 2023)
From what I saw at a convention in January it felt a bit like the fun people experienced watching the first PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN in a crowded theater...

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Predictions (March 2023)
I had my doubts on this one but it's supposed to be outstanding and a huge surprise.
I'm expecting a slightly bigger opening since many moviegoers (myself included) would have avoided this since I'm not into D&D but will end up watching it now due to its quality, curiosity factor and what I expect will be big buzz and wom.
Expecting good legs on this one as word gets out.

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Predictions (March 2023)
This will need really good reviews to do well. But the potential is there. D&D is very popular.
