Re: 2024 election
I think there are significant amount of people who truly did not think Roe v Wade would actually be overturned and was just a boogeyman the Democrats were using to dupe them into voting their way. Now the Republican Party is no longer the Conservative party going forward, but rather a Fundamentalist Party, and if that doesn’t sit well with a voter then they might refrain from voting (I don’t know if that would be enough to vote Democrat though which are getting blamed for the economic situation, somewhat fairly and somewhat unfairly)

So the opposite could happen in that a bunch of people who thought abortion was a done deal now have the opportunity to do something about it

Re: 2024 election
There is a lot of pro life people who vote Democrat when you consider black people are more religious and pro life on average than white people, but vote 95% Democrat. I think hispanics vote for Democrats is also quite a bit higher than their pro choice numbers.

Re: 2024 election
Black people are down to 87% democrat
Black people are more religious but I don't know about more pro life since Raphael Warnock is a black church pastor who is very pro abortion

If Texas challenges the ruling and takes it to SCOTUS next year, and it's struck down, it'd ban LGBTQ individuals from having sex, as well as any other sex not intended for procreation. And 16 states have trigger laws that would go into effect immediately. People will say "that's not really going to happen", like they did with Roe, but they're literally saying what they want to do next. It's time the country moves beyond that "no way that'll happen" mentality because it obviously is.

Re: 2024 election
I don't personally care about Lawrence v Texas but maybe rather than invent constitutional rights out of thin air for 50 years, social progressives should've got people to actually vote on these things rather than pretend like they're in the constitution when they're obviously not

Other than you know, the right to enslave black people. And discriminate and segregate against them

Re: 2024 election
Black people were given the right to be free from slavery, which cancels out the "right" for white people to enslave them
Likewise, if you believe the unborn are alive at a certain point, their right to life cancels out the "right" for someone to have an abortion
That's why a libertarian can be pro life and it's not contradictory

The point is simply that just because something was once considered a right does not mean that it needs to remain that way forever if the right is highly immoral.

Re: 2024 election
A woman choosing to live is highly immoral over giving a stillborn birth that will kill her and her already doomed baby?

You do know that removing a stillborn is not abortion right? Actually it is still classified that way. You do realize that? Well at least in the case of miscarriages. But I digress because you missed my point. The situation is one where an abortion is recommended to save the life of a woman because, while the baby is still on its path towards birth, it will most likely be born as a stillborn but also take the life of the woman. She is now in some states forced to give birth risking her life for the off chance the baby might be born not instantly dead.

Re: 2024 election
Actually my cousin just went through this. Glad she is alive. I also personally know a few others. Shack, I don’t mean to be rude, but are you single? I assume you’re straight, so if you have/had a wife I’d assume they’d be a woman. Not trying to be funny actually curious on this one.

Re: 2024 election
I can tell you if I was married they would 100% be a pro choice leftist based on everyone I’ve ever attracted
Tbh the main reason I started following politics more was an escape from a very strange/complicated life. Also why I’m a fraud in terms of the Canadian posting about American politics since the latter is about a thousand times more interesting (with that said the US still does affect me + it’s ok to care about people other than yourself)

Re: 2024 election
Pretty obvious Pence and Desantis will be major players. I would bet on Pence to win the race.

Re: 2024 election
Pence is only 63 so if he sat this one out due to animosity from Trump voters he could have other chances to run

Re: 2024 election
I think there is a groundswell of people in the GOP that don’t want Trump to run. Biden is unpopular, but there is someone even more unpopular than him, and his name is Donald Trump. Only thing going for Trump is his loyal fans. Biden has no fans, just people who can stomach him, which only works if you are going up against Trump.
