Lightyear
Quote: Lightyear is a 2022 American computer-animated science fiction action-adventure film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is a spin-off of the Toy Story film series, serving as an origin story for the fictional test pilot/astronaut character who the Buzz Lightyear toy/action figure featured in the main films was inspired by. This concept was previously explored with the 2000 direct-to-video film Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins, which was the pilot to a spin-off television series, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (2000–2001). The film was co-written and directed by Angus MacLane and produced by Galyn Susman, and stars Chris Evans as the voice of the title character, with Keke Palmer, Peter Sohn, James Brolin, Taika Waititi, Dale Soules, Uzo Aduba, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr. in supporting roles.
It was theatrically released in the United States on June 17, 2022, in RealD 3D, 4DX, Dolby Cinema, and IMAX formats.

Re: Lightyear
... probably near bottom tier Pixar but I still liked it. Sox is awesome. The "twist" was interesting...
I think the whole "this is the film Andy saw!!" narrative is kinda weird. Don't see kids being particular crazy about this but idk.

Re: Lightyear
This is OK. Certainly not in the league of the TS films.
My oldest son looked it, the younger one was bored.

Re: Lightyear
That’s what I feel like. It just seems like Disney Fiona are getting super samey to the point that all the characters are starting to feel like the same boring person or the same snarky person or the same “whoah what’s going on” person

Re: Lightyear
Bottom tier Pixar. Not bad, but thoroughly average and the twist with Zurg makes no sense and basically erases Toy Story 2 as canon. This Buzz is nothing like the Buzz of the Toy Story films.

Re: Lightyear
It is being review bombed on imdb, a 5.3 is pretty ridiculous

Re: Lightyear
At least in this case the movie is actually mediocre, unlike Ms Marvel which is decent.

Re: Lightyear
This was fine, excellent production values and all that, it just feels so familiar. Felt like a movie made by a committee, less than an artistic vision or expression of a story someone was passionate to tell. I liked some things about it (Sox, Chris Evans, the whole voice cast actually, racial and queer representation), but it treads no new ground and felt flat overall. B-

Re: Lightyear
I mostly liked it. Definitely a weaker Pixar film, but also definitely not their worst. 7/10ish grade.
What I still don't understand; what is this movie supposed to be? What's the point? Besides to make money?
I think there was a very simple way to help sell this to audiences. Instead of jumping right into the movie, they should have had a scene of an adult Andy showing this movie, a remake/reboot of the Buzz Lightyear film he saw as a child, to his own children. This would show us how the movie relates to the Toy Story universe as well as serving as a soft reboot for the series, as now Andy's kids and their toys could take center stage. Box office would have been doubled, maybe even tripled if they put something like that in the trailers. Nostalgia overload achieved.

Re: Lightyear
I liked the first act with the time travel (although I suppose if they were more on their game it could've been one of the best Pixar sequences ever like the start of Up, but it wasn't) but once the main human sidekicks come in it becomes annoying and average, the relationship between Buzz and Izzy doesn't have much time to grow, and I'm tired of voice actor Taika in this type of role. The need to include Zurg convoluted their storyline, they could have made the bad guy the boss who shut down the mission or made Buzz go back in time to stop his initial crash, but they had to go this whole other direction with them fighting robots most of the movie. I also think they should have done something with the grown up version of the rookie who was never mentioned again, I thought he was going to end up being the villain. This movie comes off like they had a more comparatively serious version of it and then the directive came down to try to make it funnier with the side characters and it just didn't work.
