Re: Dune Part 2 predictions
Dune needs about 730 in theaters to break even. Widely reported, as they already payed legendary 160 million on top of the budget, and 75 million on marketing with no sponsorship help. It’s the reason legendary approved the sequel. WB is banking on the next 5 years of subscriber increases.

Re: Dune Part 2 predictions
So hard to say given how unpredictable the overall environment will be by the time of its release.
Assuming a 2019 era boxoffice climate, $175 DOM/$500m WW
It's one of my favorite movies of all time. I can't wait for the sequel!

Re: Dune Part 2 predictions
Even with 100m on advertising, how does a film that cost 100m less than No Time to Die have the same break even point?

Maybe according to creative Hollywood accounting so that they can avoid paying profit sharing deals to key talent.

Re: Dune Part 2 predictions
Actually it's the opposite so they didn't have an issue like Disney did with Scar Jo. Haven't you seen the Dune actors commending Legendary? I don't see what is creative or lost on this. They paid Legendary already as if the film made 400 million WW. It's a long haul gamble for WB. It's pretty well documented. It'd be a 450-500 break even point if not for that. WB has much been criticized for this. In 3-6 years if HBO Max maintains a steady growth, it'll pay out for them. If it makes you feel better, the actual studio that made Dune made a tiny manufactured profit and have commissioned a sequel

Dune 1 is rereleasing in imax starting on December 3. And it won't be on hbo max anymore. Wonder how the numbers will look.

Re: Dune Part 2 predictions
If the Imax rerelease does well domestically it may finish with $110m or so. Really wonder how it would've done with no streaming. Maybe Fury Road #s

Re: Dune Part 2 predictions
That's such a great choice! edit* Pugh too! Not sure who Austin Butler is but has to be better than the rumor of Harry Styles.

Re: Dune Part 2 predictions
I feel like Florence Pugh is likely to become the female Timothy Chalmelet. Black Widow + Hawkeye Don't Worry Darling directed by Olivia Wilde The Wonder, a novel adaptation Puss in Boots: The Last Wish voice A Good Person producer and star The Main novel adaptation Oppenheimer from Nolan Now Dune 2. That's 8 projects over a 2 year period and many of these super high profile. Probably will get an Oscar within 5 years at this rate. Also cool tidbit about Walkin / Dune / Fatboy Slim: Quote: As many people have noted on social media, Walken’s addition in Dune fulfills a prophecy cast over two decades ago by Fatboy Slim: His “Weapon of Choice” — bolstered by a now-legendary video directed by Spike Jonze and starring Walken and his dance moves — prominently featured the lyric “Walk without rhythm, and it won’t attract the worm,” which is advice doled out in Herbert’s novel. Thanks in part to Walken’s gyrations to the Dune quote, the visual would later win Best Music Video at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards.

Re: Dune Part 2 predictions
Zendaya, Holland, Chalamet and Pugh are all within like 9 months in age and seem like leaders of Gen Z generation (Ronan is better actress than them but will be the awards centric) There needs to be a Holland+Pugh movie that isn't just their Marvel characters, and the epic Chalamet vs Holland.

Re: Dune Part 2 predictions
Dune 2 sales for early imax shows for Sunday 2/25 have started and sales are really good. It sold out Lincoln Sq Imax show immediately and sold over 8K tickets in few hours at AMC. I am expecting overall sales to be robust when it opens on Friday. Easily going to be 1st breakout of the year.

Re: Dune Part 2 predictions
I didn't like the move at first but going to March might be one of the best release date swaps in box office history. It also will be a bigger player at next year's oscars. Oppenheimer would have won every category it was nominated in this year.

Re: Dune Part 2 predictions
Lincoln Square is failing big time. I am expecting the Imax/Dolby to sellout very quickly. Outside the big cities, it wont be that crazy. I am thinking its going for Oppenheimer OW.
