AVATAR 2 the 1st sequel ever to rule the WW all-time charts?
Never before has a sequel ruled the all-time charts (neither domestic, INTL or WW), but looking at the rapid growth of China it makes me wonder if A2 can be the first to do so - what do you think? When AVATAR was released in China there were 1,700 theaters and 4,700 screens. By the end of 2014 there will be 5,300 theaters and 22,000 screens ( http://english.entgroup.cn/uploads/repo ... redversion)490.pdf) By the end of 2016 there could be 6,500 theaters and 30,000 screens in China - six times as many screens when A1 was released...

It will decrease in many markets, though, so it will probably even out, and most likely it will make less than Avatar did. I am thinking that it will even struggle to out-gross The Avengers.

I see it grossing no more than 400 million in the U.S. and maybe about as much as the first grossed overseas. It could be #2, but overtaking the original is unlikely.

It has taken too long to make this sequel. I seriously doubt it will be able to beat the originals domestic gross. I think it would be lucky to make 450M.
Odds of topping the charts:
Domestic: 10% (never know how good it might be, it at least has a shot) International: 50% (with the growth of China's market, it will depend on how much it drops in other countries) Worldwide: 30%

When is this even coming out. I'd assume avengers 2 is good as well for this too. I wouldn't count out the next SW film either, a lot will have changed in the last decade

Avengers 2 and Avatar will decrease domestically, but stay about the same or increase a little overseas. avatar 2 will be number 2 WW and The Avengers 2 will be number 4. Star Wars will be the highest grossing Star Wars film, but adjusting for inflation, it will be the least attended.

Does anyone care about this anymore? The original feels so forgotten.
I have a feeling they are really going to regret having committed to five films.

Re: AVATAR 2 the 1st sequel ever to rule the WW all-time cha
Avatar is not one of the most beloved films of all time, but it's definitely not forgotten lol, and the second film will gross at least 450m domestic.
The third-fifth films could be a FB situation though December release date will help turn an underwhelming opening into a big total a la Aquaman, even if they're bad.

Also Batman forever won in 1995, Indy 3 1989, T2 1991. This thread was void 8 years ago, no reason to bump
