Friday #s (April 30)
Mortal Kombat - 1.85m (80% drop from last Friday) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - 340k (152 theaters)
Yikes at MK. Pretty nice for Scott Pilgrim, I saw it in Dolby Thursday and it was pretty fun to see in theaters again.
Also Raya is having some pretty fantastic drops recently. May get to 5x multiplier.

Is it that surprising for MK? Fan driven+bad WoM+streaming looks like a really bad combo for legs to me.

I guess with those numbers MK marginally won the week over DS and might continue to do so over this weekend but its pretty much guaranteed that DS will win the week this time because the difference in weekend gross will be minimal.

That Demon Slayer number is disappointing after the super-strong weekday numbers, but around where I was expecting it before those weekday numbers. That Mortal Kombat number though, oof. The fact that this hopeful franchise start is gonna have similar legs to an anime series continuation is r o u g h.
Great number for Scott Pilgrim though. Even if it's super frontloaded it should have the best PTA for the weekend.

Great number for Scott Pilgrim though. Even if it's super frontloaded it should have the best PTA for the weekend. It's all about perspective really. Demon Slayer has already made about 29 million more than it would have in any other circumstance, so enjoy the extra gravy. I have no interest in this movie, but it's hard to believe Spirited Away was 20 years ago. It's reviews are great, but is it just an extremely faithful adaptation or is there Academy Awards hopes for it?

Re: Friday #s (April 30)
Mugen Train is a sequel from the tv series that will lead into the next season. Think Serenity ... if Firefly had gotten a season 2. I don't see it playing well with the academy outside of maybe Best Animated, but that category might be stacked next year with Raya, Luca, Encanto, Mitchells v the Machines, etc...
Tough drops, but at least we will have another neck and neck race for #1.
Will Wrath of Man do decent business as the summer kick off next week?

Re: Friday #s (April 30)
I was thinking Foreign, but yeah if it's not a standalone I don't see it gaining much ground going forward. Still always great to see something different do so well.
I really wish Wrath of Man didn't have to deal with the Pandemic. I was excited to see how Statham would finally do coming back to Richie post Hobbs and Shaw, Expendables, and even the Meg. The online buzz is really high for it, I think it might be able to top The Gentlemen though, which would be great.

Re: Friday #s (April 30)
I am sad Scott Pilgrim isn't showing at a theater located within 2 hours of me. I would love to go see it in a theater again. I'm wishing they'd expand it to other theaters outside of AMC. I don't care if I see it in Dolby I just want to see it on the big screen. Fingers crossed they at least have it in some regular theaters in August for its 10th Anniversary. This re-release is doing well so maybe it could happen.

Tremors was playing by me. That was awesome, I almost thought about going. I love that movie. Still waiting for one more shot and something I really want to see to get me back in.
