Re: Seinfeld
Saw an episode yesterday in which one of the four main characters on Seinfeld mentioned having a sibling - - I hadn't remembered that, so I thought it would be a good trivia question:
Which of Jerry, Kramer, George, or Elaine have a sibling?

That's not the episode I just saw, nor was Jerry the character I was refering to (I thought everyone knew this? ) Here's the answer for anyone interested... What's most surprising to me, is that this trivia question surprises me - - like everyone, I've seen most episodes multiple times, and yet some of these small (errr, trivial) details still haven't implanted themselves in my long term memory. I wonder what'll be like watching this series in 2039 on it's 50th anniversary? I'm guessing it'll be kinda like watching the Honeymooners is now - - very old school, yet with the timeless humor shining through the decades...

Re: Seinfeld
I was still right. All 3 have siblings that are only implied but never seen. Elaine was the other one I was thinking, though. See, the reason my brother and I are a deadly Seinfeld team is that he's seen all the episodes twice as much as I have, so would have known something like this without thinking. While I on the other hand somehow memorized all the useless shit from the Notes About Nothing and the commentaries and Inside Looks on the DVDs.

Re: Seinfeld
I am downloading all the Seinfeld episodes. I've never watched them before. Well, I may have watched or seen bits of one or two. I think it was on in the UK at some point, perhaps on Channel 4. They loved airing all the US sitcoms. They had Frasier, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, Will & Grace, According to Jim etc. but I do not recall ever seeing Seinfeld. However, just from its size and popularity, I could imagine Channel 4 having aired it, and I think perhaps it was on early in the morning (in the re-run years, because I was too young to catch the original airings) at 6:30am, and I woke up at 7am for school, so it would never enter my world. Or something like that (or perhaps they never aired it because the comedy didn't sit well with the Brits, who knows!). Anyway, as I am a huge fan of Curb and Larry David in general, I am attempting to download and watch all the Seinfeld episodes, and I think it will be interesting because I'm fresh to it all. I know nothing of the stories, the conventions, the catchphrases etc. I am familiar with American "filmed-in-front-of-a-live-studio-audience" sitcoms and I probably know a few things from the show because it was just so huge and many things (such as expressions) were adopted into popular culture. But what will be interesting is to see if it holds up in 2016. I know none of the characters, and having watched Curb multiple times, seeing that first and going backwards to Seinfeld, I think it may make the viewing experience, certainly unique, but perhaps something else - hopefully not bad. We'll see.

Re: Seinfeld
Also, with no TV here in China, I miss just sitting on the settee and catching whatever's on. So I need a quick 20-minute show. Seinfeld will act as that casually watched short burst of entertainment that I miss, and hopefully I grow to love it so it becomes more than just background noise.

Re: Seinfeld
Fair warning -- it takes a couple seasons for them to find the comedic rhythm that made the show what it was.

I just watched the pilot. Not bad. It has potential. In Larry David I trust.

Re: Seinfeld
One thing I really like about catching up on old TV shows (particularly American ones) is perhaps seeing big stars now back when they were extras trying to catch a break. Now, I do not know if Seinfeld has any of those, but I'm betting it does.

Re: Seinfeld
Episode 1 and 2 of Season Two are much better than the first Season. It's a much higher level already. And Earl Boen has a bit-part in episode 2, which was cool to see.

Re: Seinfeld
Seinfeld has so many TV stars that went on to have their own shows. It was often times considered to be lucky go get on the show.
Obviously knowing who Larry David is is gonna help too. He has so many cameos on the show,
Season 3 is where the show starts getting, but 4 is basically where it stops feeling dated and the budget got much much bigger.

Re: Seinfeld
David's cameos are mainly voice cameos but I can recall 1 scene he's in.
There are a bunch of guest stars you will know of - especially among Jerry's girlfriends.
Enjoy - I've watched the series too many times to count but still love it. The fact you are watching it for the first time is fantastic and a real treat.
Seasons 3 and 4 are great. Season 4 is what made this show explode and is fairly serialised which wasnt common back then.

It feels great watching them for the first time. I am amazed how fresh they feel. The jokes are good, and the standup parts are awesome and relatable. Look forward to Season Four.

Re: Seinfeld
Yes! It's not cliche to say the show was ahead of its time. It was pretty cutting edge when it aired.
Keen to hear your thoughts on s4 when you're done.

Re: Seinfeld
Nice. I won't be rushing it. I don't want to binge watch. I just want to see one or two a day, as I would if I caught them on repeat in the UK anyway. But I'll get back on here with my thoughts whenever I have something to share.

Watch at the pace you enjoy. Not overdoing it is always best.

Seasons 3 and 4 are great. Season 4 is what made this show explode and is fairly serialised which wasnt common back then. He's on camera I think in 6 episodes, but has 34 total cameos.. But I think my favorite line of his outside of playing Steinbrenner is "IS ANYONE HERE A MARINE BIOLOGIST?!" Keith Hernandez and the JFK spoof episode is where the show became iconic in season 3, never even near missed after that.

It's kind of funny how relevant is still. The Abortion, masturbation episodes are great. But with the clowns now, it's kind of funny that Seinfeld has a creepy clown episode. Crazy Joe Divola!

Man I envy Algren getting to watch these for the first time. Rarely does an episode come on that I may have watched only once and only remember vaguely. Most I can recite.
