McAdams was in The Vow just three years ago and that made $125 million. She also starred in Midnight in Paris that did very well and was highly acclaimed and About Time did not do that well in the US, but it did pretty well worldwide. McAdams is doing fine.

As for the other three, it's just a huge shame about Clive Owen, though he is doing okay with "The Knick".

Rachel took a break from anything mainstream after 2005, but has slowly re-integrated herself into more recognizable films. Plus, if it's good enough for McConaughey, then a TV role on a high-profile drama is good for her.

I was thinking today how devastating it must be for the principal young Twilight gang, minus Kristen, to realize that their popularity depended on that franchise. Taylor Lautner and Kellan Lutz will be fortunate to find a career in DTV. I have no idea what Ashley Greene or Nikki Reed are up to. Pattinson might be fortunate enough to not think he can be a movie star, which is why he's shown up in smaller flicks.

Post Re: Once popular actors/actresses whose careers went nowhere
Well Kellan Lutz was always just a background character in the Twilight films anyway, so becoming the lead in a Hercules movie is already a win for his career. DTV awaits.

Lautner is doing a few DTV actioners, but after those dry up he'll probably start on the tradeshow circuit (either as a celebrity or a steward).

Pattinson will never be a movie star. Neither will Kristen Stewart for that matter. Hollywood pushed her a bit too, and people were not interested. Now she's in American Ultra, which looks good, but it's still not going to gain her the respect she so desperately craves.

And I don't know Ashley Greene and Nikki Reed. I suspect they were just lucky to be in any film. Replaceable thin chicks that populate Hollywood. Do they even fit this thread when prerequisite is "once popular"?

Well, Kristen Stewart is probably content with not being Jennifer Lawrence famous. I assume she prefers the lower-profile flicks (like Still Alice) where she forgoes the mainstream attention for some quiet critical praise for her performance.

Not sure if Pattinson is the same, but he's been fairly low-profile as well since the franchise ended.

Someone like Lautner probably thought all the attention was going to translate into a movie career. But as Zac Efron found out, you need more than a buff body and a handsome face to make it. He was lucky to get Neighbors to co-star in, but he'll never be a movie star either.

Not sure if Halle Berry belongs in this list. Her career definetly went somewhere but after her Oscar win she went on to do shitty movies, and "Extact" got really lucky on getting a second season.

Didn't realize until this thread Viggo had been MIA since 2012. He should go to TV. Game of Thrones had to have called him at some point

Josh Hartnett fell off the map but he was a terrible actor and Ashton Kutcher took his seat so I guess it's to be expected. He's claimed in interviews he turned down both Superman and Batman in mid 2000s and regrets it

Katherine Heigl still had a network lead role last year and has a few movies on tap so I guess that's better than getting totally Mel Gibson'd considering she is the #1 unbearable diva queen bitch to work with apparently

Viggo Mortensen basically became "popular" by accident, by virtue of being in Lord of the Rings (replacing Stuart Townsend at the last minute), and it's clear that as soon as he was finished with Rings, he voluntarily went right back into character acting and smaller/passion projects. Hidalgo was the biggest film he did after, and I bet that was largely out of his love of horse riding rather than any desire to parlay his LOTR success into more star roles.

Even the New York Times' profile of him in advance of ROTK's release was titled "The Man Who Would Just as Soon Not Be King." That fits his post-LOTR career to a T. He doesn't belong on this list.

I wouldn't say that he was very popular at any point. He only has American Pie and I doubt that even when that was hot anyone knew his name.

I'd actually pick Seann William Scott over him. In addition to being the actual star of American Pie movies, he also was in Final Destination, Road Trip, Dude, Where's My Car?, The Rundown and The Dukes of Hazzard around 2000-2005, all of which did okay or well. After The Dukes of Hazzard he only had two real live-action successes - Role Models and American Reunion.

Yes Biggs was only popular in the AP films. I recall less than a year after American Pie broke out, his film Loser with Mena Suvari outright bombed despite both star breaking out in 1999 and it having one of the biggest songs of the decade on its soundtrack.

I was expecting much more from the film BO wise - atleast OW. Boys and Girls also tanked the same year despite Biggs' presence.

They divorced a couple of years back.

I get nostalgic each time I hear the song. Love it. However, I have never seen the film it is from, hehe.

Speaking of Sean William Scott... he actually reminds me a lot of Chris Pratt. Minus the success.

Hahaha...I have really no clue what makes you think that. Aside from them both being in their mid-to-late thirties and from Minnesota, and around 6ft, I see no resemblance acting wise whatsoever.

I was watching a movie with him the other day and his facial expressions and acting cadences reminded me of him for some reason. :nope:

Hartnertt is an intro artsy type. He turned down $100 million for superman n 2004. Dont get the "money is everthing' vibe from him.

An interesting question. As a lot mentioned weren't exactly popular. Like I can say Pauly shore was super popular for about 5 years, and then completely plummeted. What is the criteria? If your talking legit box office stars, and then they faded, it's not like they went nowhere, their careers did go somewhere first.

I'd argue Early Travolta was a great example for almost 10 years

Hamill is great example but he pulled a great later career

Maybe Orlando Bloom. I also think of someone like Meg Tilly, probably the best example is Sasha Baron Cohen. He had huge momentum, went his Own way and just really was a one note pony. Rodney Dangerfield as well, had two huge hits and just completely flopped after. Comedians are the best example imo

Hamill operates in a type of nerd-friendly niche. He has voiced the Joker in loads of animated Batman movies, played the eccentric professor in Kingsman, etc.

Exactly, his career did go somewhere eventually like Travolta. I never see Orlando Bloom anymore, harrnett stars on a series. What does nowhere mean? For instance, Chris odonnel stars on a show now but shit his career still feels ehhh
