Re: Interstellar
Saw it a second time. Liked the ending much more.
It's pretty much a gem.

Re: Interstellar
The first half of the film is great, then the second half challenges it, and more than matches it. Just wow. Everything is explained, too. I even forgot to express in my review that I think it's the best film of the year. So much other stuff to write about. I'm definitely going to watch it again.

Re: Interstellar
Interstellar is the type of experience I was expecting when I went to see Gravity last year. While I love Gravity for its technical brilliance, it just doesn't have that soul-engaging and moving narrative like Interstellar does. The relationship between Cooper and Murph is much more the focal point of the film, which is probably why it's stronger and more emphasis is put on it than Ryan and her child back on Earth in Gravity. But sure, both great films, and both great cinematic experiences, although Interstellar exceeds expectations, and Gravity just met them.
Listening to the Interstellar soundtrack right now.

Re: Interstellar
I also wanted to note how I don't think that Interstellar is like 2001: A Space Odyssey either. It's not an overlong, boring-ass, piece of shit like 2001 is, and I don't think Nolan was even trying to create "his own 2001", but even if he was, then so what? He's far exceeded that crap-fest.

An utterly captivating experience brought to us by an innovator of ideas and the future of masterful film-making. The star of the film, Hans Zimmer, delivers a powerful and poignant score to accompany the magnitude of what's playing out in front of us. Matthew McConaughey deserves a second Oscar for his performance as a widower and father-of-two with an obsession for exploration in an unknown future time where food is running out and the human race is at risk.
Black holes, fourth dimensions, other worlds, future technologies (TARS) and even a surprise appearance by Matt Damon! Interstellar is a force of ideas and true cinematic escapism. I was engrossed for three straight hours, my arms folded, my hands clenched onto my arms, my eyes not leaving the beautifully presented IMAX screen in-front of me, and afterwards; absolutely deflated.
Interstellar is also emotionally strong. Cooper and Murph's bond never takes a backseat for the duration of the film. Brand and her father, too. But it's when Cooper sees his 80-something year old daughter that we're overcome with elation, and that is sensational film-making. And last, but by no means least, the cinematography is sublime. Hats off to you, Nolan. This time, you cracked it.
A Reading this is so beautiful

If you have about 10 extra minutes... https://medium.com/@somebadideas/on-int ... 59ee28fd8eQuite the read. Makes me love the movie even more. Nolan is a different breed.

Re: Interstellar
While we are posting articles, here is a very interesting one about the differences between Jonah's original script for Spielberg and Chris' final version. http://www.slashfilm.com/interstellar-s ... fferences/I think I would have preferred the original. That bit with the Chinese is the exact sort of mid-movie boost Interstellar needed and Matt Damon failed to provide.

Re: Interstellar
I think the last 2 spots for Best Picture was probably between Gone Girl, Foxcatcher and Wild.
This has a chance to have the most nominations at the WOKJ Awards though! lol

8 my A$$ It wouldn't have made it even with ten slots. That can't be true. But of course it is. No PGA nomination, no Golden Globes nomination, no DGA nomination. The film is not very beloved in the industry. Foxcatcher, Nightcrawler and Wild would have gotten in before it.

Re: Interstellar
Nah, Into the Woods shouldn't be anywhere near the BP lineup. Interstellar would've been a worthy nominee.

Hmm, Interstellar has five nominations, Into the Woods has three. Kind of close. Although I think Interstellar would have just edged the likeliness of being nominated for Best Picture. It's close, though. But I didn't hear any buzz out side of WOKJ for either film regarding the Oscars. Then again, within WOKJ, I still heard nothing for Into the Woods.

Re: Interstellar
Both on paper were totally Oscar bait. Interstellar a innovative sci-fi film in the vein of Inception from Christopher Nolan, Into the Woods a star studded movie musical based on a Broadway favorite from the director of Chicago. Neither received the level of reviews good enough to get nominated, even though Interstellar has much more general audience support.
