Mannyisthebest wrote: Sensible moderates have love hate relation with him since obamacare. I wouldn't exactly classify me as a moderate, but yes. Except my support for him is diminishing and diminishing with each day. This summer has been a mess for him and anyone who truly calls themselves a liberal. Yet we still see this unyielding support from him from liberals. Obama is not a liberal and it seems he goes overboard on social issues to pull in his demographics more so than to serve any true sense of the words social justice. Ugh. I didn't vote for Obama in 2008 because his policies seemed like he was off to become a Bush 2.0 in disguise (I voted third party that year). But then with all of the blind racist hatred he received from the far right, it was hard not to root for him. But now it seems all of those prophesies of the second coming of Bush Jr. back in 2008 have come true. And a lot of people on the left will never admit, it seems, that the first black president turned out to kinda be a bust, a few accomplishments aside. But then outside of a few presidents, most presidents are busts or mediocre as this country is moreso run by Congress than the president, but it has been hard to use that logic this summer to support some of Obama decisions. As for now, the Bush policies continue, lets see how they play out.

And obamacare is turning out to be a bust that is so watered down from the way it was written 3 years ago. For anyone following it in the news.

Re: Syria
Obama remains popular with the youth as they are easily influenced by his speeches while moderates and realists have seen past the lies.
The thing that best help's Obama is that the other side is just so much worse.
Obama's approval rating surge has ended and will likely remain below 50% for quite some time likely till the end of his term.
Also I doubt the Republicans are going to lose control of the house in 2014 if Obama goes down this path.
Obama's place in history will be based on how the future presidents are like... Legacies can change...
Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan are now beloved figures these days while they were far more controversial as Presidents.
Even so, Obama will be regared well in history as he is the first black president and the fact Academia is dominated by liberals..
Even so I think Syria could be a turning point where some people turn on him and desveringly so.
Anyways I hope in 2016 we get a real American President.

Well to be fair Obama is engaging in political doublespeak that would make Dick Cheney Jealous.

Mr. R wrote: At this point the best deal for Syria is to sign Chemical Weapons Convention. This will win them some time, at least 45 days. Then Obama, Israel and Saudites will have to make something else up - and more time. One division of S-300 is working already. We need to ship them more modern defense systems - S-300, Pantsirs and Bastions. I can understand people not being behind the U.S. getting involved and arming the rebels and launching strikes, but why are you for arming Assad and the Syrian army, besides long-term deals that the Russian's have with them and a general like of dictators?

Re: Syria
Mr. R wrote: Not rebels. Terrorists. Rebels do not kill children and unarmed people. These guys do. And they are financed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar - same people that backed Chechen terrorists. US never brought peace anywhere. How good is life in Iraq after 10 years? US backs up dictators, then brings them down, then creates another dictators, breeds terrorists, then fights them, then uses them again. Why does the US support Saudi Arabia and Qatar - are they democratic? They spread wahhabist ideology, which is the basis of terrorism. US and its allies don't give a shit about Syrian people - it's Syria's geopolitical position they want. Syria stands between Qatari gas and Europe and is a critical element of the Shia belt and an ally of Iran. Syrian troubles started right after it signed a deal to build Iran-Iraq-Syria pipeline. If Syria falls, they build the pipeline from Qatar and bring down Gazprom and Russian economy with it. Also, US needs to cut China out of the Middle Eastern oil and gas. Iran is next on the map to "democratize". And after Iran comes Russia for being also "undemocratic" and strangely enough having too much natural resources. Well from a Russian point of view, I suppose that is a logical reason to back the Syrian leadership. However, I never called either side in the Syrian debate "democratic." I dislike both and I agree the rebels are bloodthirsty and they will end up killing many Christians if they take over--just like when Egypt was taken over by Brotherhood. I simply see no U.S. interest in backing either side.

I am sure Assad will give all his weapons to the US.(yeah Mr.Kerry) Obama fucked up. No way he can escape now a longer action in Syria. Just be sure to punish also the rebel islamist for their using of chemical weapons and other war crimes. (Dont get me wrong. Assad is a bastard....but so is a huge part of the rebels.)

Really in a week, give us all your weapons. And Obama has promised just a quickie mission. Shoot some rockets and no troops on the ground. Lol. Also I love that Obama is going so gun ho on this without any support from the American people or the world. Guess he is just doing this so he can forget about his past promises on guns and other election promises.

Re: Syria
How can Obama justify supporting an opposition that is part of a group that 12 years ago to this week launched an attack killing 3000 Americans?
