I'm really split on this one. All the technical stuff (direction, cinematography, score) were all fabulous, so were all the actors (especially Juliette Binoche). But it was also terribly slow. I wasn't very interested in the flashbacks of the younger Ralph Fiennes. That story did not really interest me at all... even though it's like the majority of the movie. But I really liked the stuff with the older Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche and the rest of them in the house. I'm not really sure about a grade.. maybe a B or B-.

Haven't seen it since it came out, because I remember thinking to myself at the time - that is the most glacially slow and uninvolving romance I've ever seen - and I'm a romance movie fan!
Winner of the prize for the most undeserving Best Picture Oscar (even ahead of ROTK!).
Boring.

Wow, I agree with Bradley!
The worst sin any film can make is to be boring, and this one does it. Most underserving Oscar winner in the last 20 years.

It's okay. Stay calm. You are amongst people who love you. This sort of episode is almost always transitory; you'll be back to normal in no time...

BORING
as you can see run time is not the reason, Lawrence of Arabia is a full hour longer but it is 100X more entertaining.
I can see why Seinfeld made fun of it, I finally saw it and I can see the storyline and everything but it's like Benjamin Button. Its so slow and boring and you don't care about the characters.

Re: The English Patient
I finally watched this today and how this won 9 oscars is beyond me. The love story is crap, Fiennes & Scott Thomas had terrible chemistry and I didn't cared for one second for them. What I did like was the little romance Binoche (who was really good) and Sayid had. C-

I love this film. Incredibly moving. I revisit it once a year.

Elaine was right about this one. Major snoozer. Of all the best picture winners I've seen, this one is the worst, Jerry. The worst!
