Will Titanic Still be in the Top 10 in 2020?
I kinda doubt it. As Avatar's ridiculous avg. ticket price ($9.9) shows, the whole 3D/IMAX premium shit is making admissions even more meaningless, so that even Spider-Man/Shrek 2/TDK-sized hits would blast past Titanic. In fact, all three that I mentioned would be at $700-750m with Avatar's ticket prices.
In fact, even ROTK, Spider-Man 2, The Passion, and Revenge of the Sith would be in Titanic territory. Sith has the lowest admission among those, with 59.3m. That translated to $451m in 2010 avg. ticket price ($7.61 BOM). Even at a 3% annual increase from that 2011-2020, the avg. ticket price would be at $10 by 2020.
So, below top 10 for Titanic in a decade.

I forgot about the inevitable Titanic 3D re-release. But even so, let's see how that does. My question really pertains to $600m+ films this decade. I think we'll see another 9.

Re: Will Titanic Still be in the Top 10 in 2020?
The 5 films that would top Titanic unadjusted with 3-D released between 2000-2009
(2009)Avatar - 800m+ (80% of tickets sold 3-D)
(2008)The Dark Knight - 702m (80% of tickets sold 3-D)
(2002)Spider-Man - 640m (75% of tikets sold 3-D)
(2004)Shrek2 - 638m (60% of Tickets sold 3-D)
(2006)Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest - 600m (70% of tickest sold 3-D)
The estimated % of tickets sold in 3-D is based on current trends, animated films tend to sell a lower %

If up can't even make $300M with 3D I don't see many other 700-800 mill grossers on the way. I think it will be #3 in 2020.

Re: Will Titanic Still be in the Top 10 in 2020?
If tickets increase 4% a year, this is what the top ten of 2009 would adjust to:
1 Avatar $1,231,099,195.71 2 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen $618,799,499.68 3 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince $464,677,155.71 4 The Twilight Saga: New Moon $455,506,702.41 5 Up $450,896,488.30 6 The Hangover $426,764,387.99 7 The Blind Side $400,107,238.61 8 Star Trek $396,614,023.88 9 Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel $338,552,278.82 10 Sherlock Holmes $323,163,538.87
If say the top 10 all had a 3d bump in 2020 as well as a hypothetical (if not 3d, there will be some type of new techology available...:
1 Avatar $1,231,099,195.71 2 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen $804,439,349.58 3 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince $604,080,302.42 4 The Twilight Saga: New Moon $592,158,713.14 5 The Hangover $554,793,704.39 6 The Blind Side $520,139,410.19 7 Star Trek $515,598,231.04 8 Up $450,896,488.30 9 Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel $440,117,962.47 10 Sherlock Holmes $420,112,600.54
The #8 film could be at $500 m +. By 2015, $400 m will become the $300 m of today. By 2020, $500 m will become the $300 m of today...
I don't see Titanic in the top 10 by 2020.

Re: Will Titanic Still be in the Top 10 in 2020?
Hypothetically we can assume things and say that it will be off the chart but I don't see that happening. There are a lot of 3D movies in market and none has proven the staying power as Avatar has. Also I don't see people taking chances over and over for 3D and paying that extra money for every movie.
After 2020 I think so Titanic might not be in Top 5 but it will still be in the Top 10.

We’ll Titanic ended up still on the top 10 by 2020 even without the rerelease in 2012 it would have been 10th
