Definitely my favorite Bond film. Was nice to see the sexual innuendoes cut down by 99%.
Liked the darker tone.

Heh. You said "innuendoes".
That sounds like "in your butt ohs".
Very clever, Squee.

Re: Casino Royale (2006)
The best bond film I've ever seen. No silly ice palaces, no weird-ass villains, and no gadget overload. Vesper had really great chemistry with Bond, and all of the humour this time around was actually funny and perfectly timed. I don't get what some people were saying about this bond losing the humour - it had some of the BEST yet. Bond just became a heck of a lot more quotable than it's ever been for me.
Certain scenes showed great direction with respect to lighting and cinematography, such as the shower scene and the torture scene. The shower scene is one of the best moments I've seen in a Bond film.
Loved the snappy ending; leaving the "Bond, James Bond" until the end made it feel even more iconic, if possible.

Re: Casino Royale (2006)
One of the most surprising movies last year. It's easily my favorite Bond movie and I thought Craig was perfect for the part. They could have used Eva Green a bit more but that's just a minor complaint. The action was fantastic especially the Madagascar scenes. And the movie has a good rewatchability on DVD. Can't wait for the next one, and I was never excited for a Bond film before. A

Re: Casino Royale (2006)
The never-ending action scene at the beginning is laughable, the soundtrack mediocre at best but at least Woody is a nice James Bore, better than Pierce. Incredibly overrated among the male moviegoers, it surely has something to do with the general level of Brosnan's movies. After this, I watched 12 Angry Men for the 45th time, just to get rid of the scoriae it left. D

Re: Casino Royale (2006)
Gave it another watch recently. It's still my favourite Bond film, but...
It's structured really oddly. The first hour or so all builds up to the plane sequence, which is great, but then the film sort of restarts and shifts to the poker game. Then it builds up again, climaxing at the torture scene, and the film feels like it should be over, but then there's the whole bit in Venice which, while it may be important to the character and the theme, feels really extraneous in a narrative sense. Thus, the film feels too long and is really hard to get through at times.
Still, though, it's superbly acted, with sparkling dialogue, solid characters, great action, and a nice down-to-earth sensibility about it. It really feels like a movie, as opposed to most Bond films, which just feel like spectacles. It may break the mould, but the mould of the series was in need of breaking.

Re: Casino Royale (2006)
As I've said before, it's not the best Bond film [that belongs to "Goldeneye," which Martin Campbell also directed], but it's without a doubt the best film with James Bond in it. It's like a more emotional and impossible-action-filled [compared to the realism portrayed in a...] "Bourne" film. Craig gave a fantastic performance, Eva Green was one of the best Bond girls to date, Mads Mikkelsen was one of the best Bond villains, the film never got boring, and did a lot of things that Bond films have never been willing to do, and succeeded on nearly every level. It felt sort of anti-climactic - throwing in a second story right after the casino had taken long enough that it could have ended the film - but it was easily one of the most entertaining films I've seen. And that's what movies like this are all about.

Daniel Craig is one of favorite actors because of his role in this and Layer Cake. It's not very often an action movie will do that to someone.

Only stuff like Bruce Willis in Die Hard and Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible/Top Gun have ever been performances in action movies that have set careers in motion, and I think these Bond flicks will make Craig a very big name after two or three more films.

Keanu Reeves- Speed Stallone- First Blood Schwarzenegger- Conan Ford-Star Wars and then set further by Indy I think any longtime action star has a movie that sets careers like that.

Re: Casino Royale (2006)
My friend and I were talking about Parkour last night, so we pulled the opening chase scene of this movie up on the ol' YouTube...
Good God, I forgot how terrible this movie is. That scene alone is a complete travesty. Shots that mean nothing or have no pay-off, terrible editing which leads to awful continuity between shots, a complete inability to decipher anything that is happening... and that's just the biggest set piece of the entire movie! Never mind the fact that it becomes depressingly, soul-crushingly boring with its never ending poker scenes, and its 37 endings (each one lamer than the last).
Gah. I don't see anyway that Quantum of Solace can't be an improvement over this.

By far the best bond movie. I love everything about it. Plus I'm so glad there's finally a bond who's actually bad ass. Top 5 of 2006.

Re: Casino Royale (2006)
In the minority, but I didn't enjoy Casino Royale and would rank it near the bottom. I haven't seen many Bond films (I think 7 or so, Goldeneye being my favorite) though. I don't think it's a bad film, it's not, it's very solid, but I wasn't enjoying myself during any of it really. Very similar feelings I had for Batman Begins. Solid, but was just... there or something.

Re: Casino Royale (2006)
Finally watched it Tonight and it was epic.
The film drifted into many different areas so it made the film much more different than the others which are mostly about one story.
The film goes around the world in many great locales and there are nice cars and nice women.
The action is great and well done and the whole look of the film is very cool. You never see this in action films these days.
There is a reason why this opened to 40 million and ended up with over 167 million.

Re: Casino Royale (2006)
It's the first Bond to have any sort of drama to it since On Her Majesty's Secret Service and that's why it works so well. Bond's no longer a machine but a human being. He makes mistakes. He is, as the movie puts it, a blunt instrument that will run through drywall to get his man. And that's what's fun about Casino Royale. We get to see the character evolve more than any other time in the history of the series. He earns his line by the end of the film.
And on top of that Martin Campbell doesn't neglect to still provide the classic Bond elements throughout the film. You get the re-appearance of the DB5 Aston Martin from Goldfinger. You have great thrilling action sequences (Parkour!), and the Bond girls are top notch (one more so than the other). Eva Green's Vesper Lynd is right up there with the best in the series. And besides being the love of Bond's life (I wonder if the Craig series will address Tracy in any sort of way?) she's his intellectual match. The best Bond girls in the series always seem to be a match for him.
Finally there is Daniel Craig. Just based on one performance, he's the best actor to ever play James Bond. The last third of this movie is possibly the toughest any actor who's ever played James Bond has had to go through because he has to run through the gamut of emotions and still be convincing as Bond. He might not have the charm of Connery, but he's also not supposed to yet.
Just like On Her Majesty's Secret Service before it, this Bond has a sense of character to it and it's one of the best because of it.

Film was pretty entertaining, though I am excited to see them grow in size scope and complexity as they continue. I will go back and watch the old ones if I like the rest of the Craig films

The coldest blood runs through my veins, you know my name.
This, Skyfall and On Her Majesty's Secret Service are my top tier Bonds in varying order. Then Goldeneye and some of the Connery ones would follow.
