 Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix)
Quote: Exciting news for Netflix subscribers (*other streaming sites are available) with the announcement of a huge production partnership deal with Marvel. The studio’s TV arm and the TV Network are developing four 13-part superhero series, kicking off in 2015. Those will lead into what they’re calling “a miniseries programming event”, a version of Marvel’s The Defenders that “reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters”.
The first Marvel cab off the Netflix rank will be a 13-part Daredevil series, followed by Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. For Marvel fans, this means years of viewing ahead and a vow Netflix that readers will be taken “deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York”.
“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel's brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling,” said Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment. “Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty. This serialised epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”
Added Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos: “Marvel’s movies, such as Iron Man and The Avengers, are huge favourites on our service around the world. Like Disney, Marvel is a known and loved brand that travels. We’re thrilled to be working with Disney and Marvel to take our brand of television to new levels with a creative project of this magnitude.”
Netflix sees the deal as a natural extension to last year’s deal that gave them exclusive US subscription TV rights to all Marvel and Walt Disney properties. With its track record in producing original TV series – Orange Is The New Black and House Of Cards, amongst them – Marvel fanboys should be reassured that the results will leave Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the shade. http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=39312I wish Disney/Marvel were returning Daredevil to the big screen, but I am still glad to see movement on the character of any type. I hope this is produced and received well.

Re: Disney, Netflix to produce Marvel miniseries
^ That was because it was on ABC. Also, the source material is much better for Daredevil than say SHIELD. Read the Daredevil 1985 "Born Again" graphic novels and see how gritty is even by today's standards. What worries me is Disney's involvement because of how crappy Iron Man 3 and Avengers turned out to be.

I don't think Agents of SHEILD should be looked at as a model for these Netflix series. SHEILD isn't all that interesting to begin with plus its on network tv. This series (ESP Daredevil) have much greater potential to be good, if not great.

I'm excited about this. They will not be limited in terms of what can/can't be shown/said on tv so they can push the boundaries of the characters if they like and get actors other than those focused on tv. Better quality players.

Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, The Cabin in the Woods) may write the Daredevil series. http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=39359

 Re: Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix)
Charlie Cox suits the part. He deserves success with this.

 Re: Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix)
I guess it will be called tv shut in weekend because of binging on the show between friday to sunday before GOT season 5 premieres this sunday. I'm glad they went with the TV-MA rating to resemble Frank Miller's gritty version of the comic book.

 Re: Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix)
I can't keep up with all these tv series!! I just blasted through Game of Thrones this past week so I'm all ready for that. I still got a season of the Fosters to finish and now Daredevil.

Just finished the second episode and I LOVED the final fighting scene, the way it was shot was perfect.

 Re: Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix)
The first episode started off pretty rough. The origins scene and the confession were very boring. After that it finds ground though, and the first two episodes have been pretty entertaining.

I watched the first episode only. I was bored. Bad dialogue, very predictable.

 Re: Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix)
I recommend watching past the first episode. It gets very violent by episode 4 and the fight choreography is well done almost like Donnie Yen films.

Just finished episode 3. The big hallway fight scene at the end of the second episode was absolutely awesome.

 Re: Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix)
I have watched the first two episodes. So far, I believe it is a strong series, but I have reservations, too.
Charlie Cox is fantastic. The shadow-enshrouded photography is nice, as is the fight choreography. And I just have so much love and childhood nostalgia for the Daredevil character/mythology.
It is a bit low energy, though. As if several scenes go on a minute or two longer than they should, and I am finding it hard to invest in Daredevil's war against the Eastern European mob beyond, "Cool fight scene." I hope the proper introduction of the Kingpin provides an increase in momentum.
The scenes with him and his father and his father's untimely death are rather perfunctorily ran through, relying on advance audience familiarity with the story rather than truly delving into the feelings and motivations. I thought the similar scenes in the 2003 film were more poignant.
And I am afraid I find Elden Henson slightly irritating rather than endearing and goofy as Foggy Nelson.

 Re: Marvel's Daredevil (Netflix)
The Russian stuff is boring. Charlie Cox, Rosario Dawson, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson are great though.
I don't know how I feel about D'Onofrio yet as Fisk but I do like his romance subplot and am intrigued by where it goes.
In the middle of episode 5 now.

OK, I love Vanessa. She's giving me Illythia/Lucretia vibes from "Spartacus" Just finished the fifth. The end was nuts!
