Post Re: House of the Dragon (HBO)
The way less characters than on Game of Thrones helps focus the storyline a bit which has been solid, but also makes it seem like there's less of a world out there beyond the royals at the time than in GOT. There is no commoner character to give a feel for what King's Landing is like for the more relatable normal people in this show and no feel for what's going on in the North or any other of the other seven kingdoms. Unfortunately the lowest class character so far in the prostitute queen seems to be played by the worst actor on the show so far.

Episode 2 had more viewers than the premiere. No second episode in any season of Game of Thrones managed this, so seems pretty impressive.

Perhaps some GOT fans were holding out until they heard the reception the first episode received?

Out of the 6 screened for critics, episode 3 and 6 are supposed to be best

I'm loving it so far. Episode 2 was better than the first which is very positive. Visuals are stunning and getting accustomed to the characters. Plenty of good set-up that will hopefully pay off.

If anything, while the GoT pilot was better than HoTD's pilot, this was a better second episode by comparison.

Really great ending this week with Daemon being a stubborn, suicidal bastard and it paying off for him. And we got a new dragon! Though ... touching the crab feeder's corpse like that made me squirm. Grey scale isn't something to fuck around with. Not everyone can get a miracle heal from Sam ... I'm looking at you John Connington.

That battle was probably more ridiculous logic wise than Battle of the Basterds but cool I guess.

Was kinda hoping Rhaenyra would complete the set with Allicent too. Milly will be missed when the big time jump happens.

Funny how Otto has been scheming and scheming since minute one but gets done in by telling the truth.

Oh wow, I didn't know about the change of actresses. That sucks. Also Olivia Cooke looks nothing like the young Allicent nnn

This seems to be doing great in the ratings and not going down

Ratings so far

2.2 million (.55 18-49)
2.3 (.59)
1.8 (.37)
1.8 (.41)
1.8 (.42)

Euphoria season 2 averaged 341k and .12 18-49 (probably a lot of teens watch it on streaming), Succession 552k and .12. Game of Thrones season 8 was whole different level though at 12 million and 5.2 18-49. Season 1 was around 2.5 million per episode I think.

That was a great episode to end the first half of the season and then vault into the second half with the time jump and new actresses and offcourse the real meaty part of the story.

Powerhouse of an episode. The party scene was vintage Thrones. So many eyes noticing so many things.

I just started watching this too, not quite peak GoT, but better than season 8 and I'm enjoying it. Episode 1 needed a bit getting used to it, 2 to 4 were very solid and 5 was a bit of a mixed bag, it feels like a right moment for a time jump and freshen things up. Look froward to see how the story evolves.

Ehhh this should have been the season 2 premiere. I didn't mind the change of actors, but the characters were very different as well. Could have used some more to developing the Rheanyra v Allicent rivalry before launching an all out war.

That said, teenage Aegon is a wild character. Just doing his business in an open window at the top of a castle. Didn't even get embarassed when his mom walked in. Already a legend. Just a bummer his crazy mom is harshing his vibes.

Yeah the time jump felt very abrupt. Would've been nice to see at least some of the stuff in between the 10 years but I guess we'll see where the show is at the end of the season. Still a good episode though and am liking the show more than I thought I would.

Felt a little bit rushed with those characters dying so quickly after being introduced.

The Ser Cristin storyline has been the best so far, glad he didn't commit seppuku.

I'd say it was too soon to kill off some key characters after the jump. Especially the one that was flamed. I still don't understand the full motive.

However, still enjoying this even with the time jump and new actors.

I was pretty disappointed in this episode actually. It's still good, but not at the level of the rest of the season.

Rings of Power continues to get better (episode 6 is great) while this has fallen a bit.

A weak episode of house of the dragon is still better than ROP ep 1-4. Havent seen 5 or 6 so I can't speak.

She hulk is bad but at least entertaining. ROP i literally can't pay attention i zone out immediately its so uninvolving and I just don't care about the characters

Yeah the last episode was weak but the one before was like the best since ... season 6 finale of Thrones? Just wish they had done the entire season in that timeline before jumping forward. Did not get enough time with Laena or Harwin.

Today's episode was definitely the best so far. Setting the stage for a lot of big things to come.
