How did the show manage to make me root for an incestuous relationship SO HARD?

Very good episode. Enjoyed it immensely. The "eye for an eye" scene is about as perfect as it gets. The ending was nicely done.

It now sets up for one more time jump (the kids are older in the next episode) and then should settle down for the Dance of the Dragons.

Good episode to set up the next phase for the show. Clearly a lot of family issues.

Why is Viserys old dying sick and on his death bed but Rhaenys, Daemon, Criston Cole etc don't look any older? why is he the only one that was in such bad shape?

also how many years have passed at this point? Great show but id love if they made it obvious how many years pass each episode

An amazing episode. So many great scenes.

6 years look to have passed since the last episode. Before that they had an approx 10-12 year jump when they changed actresses.

I’d estimate episodes 1 to 8 span approx 20-25 years.

Aemond really is a little twat, but it was worth it for that strong look of begrudging respect from Daemon. Like "yeah ... I probably would have done the same thing."

Daemon carrying his brother/step-dad up the stairs was also a great moment. King Paddy almost got the happy family he wanted, but fumbled on the goal line right before his last breath with a strong case of mistaken identity.

I mean Paddy may have just locked up his Emmy with this final episode. The acting was SUPERB. My god the way he moved.

But yes Targaryen: Civil War will be iconic.

Wow what a send off for Viserys! The scene with him walking in through the head slice at the end was epic.

Eye patch guy is a problem. I wondered for a second if he was just going to murder all three of the brunette boys right there.

What was the better scene: Rhaenys escaping or Larys trading information for access to the Queen's OnlyFeet page?

I do wish Rhaenys had just flamed them all though. Obviously we'd have no show if she did, but come on, at least kill Otto.

But judging from the way she entered, I don't think Rhaenys will be all that bothered about thousands of commoners dying the upcoming war.

I guess the key to rebounding from GOT disappointment and creating a compelling series in this universe was not having anything to do with Benioff and Weiss.

Haha yes indeed.

The thing is the source material is so good that outside of the casting (generally great) GoT should have been even better. Had these show runners taken over from D&D from say S5 onwards - the series would have ended as one of the greatest of all time.

D&D at least helped get the show on tv but even then / the pilot was so bad it nearly killed the show. Thankfully they Forbes it around with the reshot pilot.

For such a popular property, GOT is 0 for 2 in carrying things out to the end properly. GOT The Show disappointed virtually everyone (I haven't watched it again, but at the time I was fine with most of it). GOT The Books are likely not going to ever be completed, at least not by GRRM.

GRRM is the bigger disappointment IMO. 11 years (and counting) since the last book which was released the same year as S1 of the show.

D&D are to blame for rushing and ruining S8 (and some of S7) to move on to other (now defunct) projects.

I didn't realize the finale leaked and got spoiled on the ending. That sucks. But still, what are you doing Rhaenyra? Sending your kids off on their own just reeks of Dragon-Privilege.

Yeah agreed - hate these 2-year gaps.

But great episode. Full of dread towards the end as Luke's fate was sealed early on

I liked how the Luke scene ties back to the "controling dragons is an illusion" line from the pilot because yeah what the fuck was Aemond trying to do? That was not gonna end the way he wanted it to.

I understand writer's block and not being able to force one's self to write something. But... at a certain point, he has to admit he doesn't know how to end the books properly. And the public's overwhelmingly negative opinion on the show's ending has likely stifled any possibility of him giving a proper end.
