The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu)
Based on Canadian writer Margaret Atwood's celebrated 1985 dystopian novel, this science- or speculative-fiction drama stars Elisabeth Moss, Alexis Bledel, Joseph Fiennes, and Yvonne Strahovski. Created by television veteran Bruce Miller (ER, Medium, The 100), its first episode debuts on Hulu on the 26th of April.
I cannot wait. The novel is great. The cast is strong, particularly the fabulous Moss. It seems very smartly and stylishly made.

Re: The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu)
This show is insane! I have episodes 1-7 and it just keeps getting better and better. The reveal at the end of episode 6 made my jaw drop. They are doing such a good job at building the world and atmosphere, and the cast couldn't be better.
Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski and Alexis Bledel deserve Emmy nominations. This is Bledel's best performance by a landslide.

It is an incredible adaptation of the novel and, as glib as this may sound, it feels perfectly timed during the early days of the Trump administration. The sense of anxiety and oppression is palpable in every frame, and the performances are superlative.

The show is beautiful but I hated the writing about as much as I could. I have to stop paying attention to TV critics

Re: The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu)
I liked the first episode. I didn't find it that great or engaging as the reviews make it out to be (though to be fair they did base their opinion on more than just one episode), but there's definitely something promising here. I was a bit amused by the cliffhanger of the first episode that seemed slightly tastelessly tacked on just for the episode to end with a cliffhanger, especially since the leading lady already seems very aware throughout the show she cannot trust anyone.
Also can Alexis Bledel die a horrible death sometime during the course of the show? I would be forever grateful to the gods of TV.

Alexis Bledel is excellent on this show. The third episode is a huge showcase for her.

I just need to satisfy my need to see her die a horrible death and imagine she's Rory.

Re: The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu)
So this is a good show, but it turned slightly toward the usual TV cliche in the latest episode with soapy twists - your husband's not dead, write him something etc. I didn't like the latest episode either, it was a true filler that could've been summed by a couple of sentences from the character himself and we didn't get much new info on the whole universe either.

Re: The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu)
I guess it is a controversial gambit to let the central drama lay dormant for an entire episode, but I dug the husband-centric hour. Very well-structured, suspenseful, and poignant.

exactly the same way as the novel does, with June/Offred entering a foreboding "eye" van unsure if she is being saved or condemned. Though obviously a great deal is different (expanded) on the periphery. I suspect the ending would have angered a lot of people if this remained a standalone adaptation rather than an ongoing series.
Anyway, an excellent season of television, particularly buoyed by the female cast members' acting.

Re: The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu)
The finale was an emotional rollercoaster! The sheer cruelty of Serena Joy bringing June to "see" her daughter and then vaguely threatening her was almost breathtaking. Flames. Flames on the side of my face. Yvonne Strahovski has been superb in bringing out the humanity in her character, though.
Then all of the handmaids refusing to kill Janine was such a triumphant moment that I wanted to fist pump.
Also, obsessed with using "American Girl" as the end credits song.

Re: The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu)
I am not 100-percent fond of the song choices. They can feel too on-the-nose, to the point of almost being goofy. "Feeling Good" is such an obvious choice, for example, to follow their sparing of Janine.

Re: The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu)
This is one of the most stunning shows on TV in years. The second season has been brilliant.
I fucking love this show. Binged that first season in like a week and now I'm completely hooked. It's dark, tragic and haunting stuff with some fantastic performances from Moss, Fiennes and Strahovski. I couldn't wait to binge the second season, so I just watched each episode on a weekly basis and I'm glad I did because this season was equally incredible IMO.

Yeah, that finale just cemented this as the finest program on television right now. I was equal parts sobbing and screaming at the TV and I LOVED the ending. Holy fuck. I can't wait for season 3. I don't want to wait a year.
That scene between Yvonne and Elisabeth where Mrs. Waterford said goodbye to the baby - Jesus Christ. Yvonne needs all the Emmys.

Re: The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu)
While still excellent in several ways, most notably the performances, I found the second season a step down from the first in quality. It moves a bit too much in stops and starts, oddly rushing through certain stories. Particularly in the second half of the season.

I'm gonna need Yvonne to win the Emmy next weekend. I still haven't gotten over this scene.
I hope Elisabeth and the series win too. This is far and away the best show on TV right now.

Re: The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu)
I presume she will win, unless there is vote splitting between her Handmaid's Tale co-stars. She is the MVP of the second season. Unless they want to give it to Lena Headey after so many nominations. I struggle to see Thandie Newton winning for the second season of Westworld if she did not for the first.

Season 3 is great so far. Still mad this gob snubbed at the emmys last year, this show is absolutely amazing. The scene in season 2 where June had to say goodbye again to her daughter again ripped me apart!
