True but it still had nearly half of its run in the 00s and no other show has shaped TV like it |

Friends aired more seasons in the 90s. I was already stretching it a bit with Buffy |

It would have been borderline to make it anyways. It was influential but my #5 show was CSI which led to 20 years of crappy network procedurals for good or bad so the bar to get in was pretty high. Some sitcoms rip off Friends like Big Bang and HIMYM but some are more like King of Queens (the fat guy hot wife thing of course goes back a long way before that to the Flintstones and the Honeymooners era) or some remnant of All in the Family. I think Cheers also is most responsible for the will they or won't they but Friends definitely made sitcoms young. Also half the shows that Friends influenced started in the 90s like That 70s Show and Will and Grace I think an underrated influential show is Archer as this era has had a lot of weirder animated shows like it, Rick and Morty and BoJack Horseman, it seems like things have shifted this decade from Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park era. Unless I'm missing something I guess Archer which started in 2010 would be one of the shows responsible although obviously it didn't invent artistic or adult orientated animations |
