Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
I mean it is because of things like Project 2025, Trump wanting to increase the power of the executive branch, and many of his former cabinet mates warning people he will push for the Insurrection Act. But sound bites play easier to a group of voters who lack critical thinking. Ironically I agree with you Shack, it undermines the real threat by allowing them to say “see they’re taking us out of context.”

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
It reinforced the narrative, though, and thanks to Jan. 6th, nobody outside of MAGA believes the "out of context" crap.

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
Nah, I think the media is being really dumb, like they want Trump to win. In the same rally he opened with a super creepy quasi fascist national anthem sung by the violent rioters of Jan 6th whilst saluting them and calling them hostages promising to pardon them on day one. In no way is this an exaggeration or something taken out of context and is far more alarming.

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
the media is of course a business and DT has understood for decades how he can use them to personally profit, but I really do not see any issue with the Dems taking issue with "bloodbath" comment, it continues to reinforce the preexisting notion among many that Trump is a lunatic.
Trump needs to be an absolute saint between now and Election Day to win back moderates in swing states. All of this stuff just reinforce that he intends to be anything but that. The other pieces about the anthem etc are coming out too.

Does he need to do anything though? This election is shaping up to be a landslide in his favor and the crazy dictorial way he's been talking lately hasn't scared anybody away.

GOP voters will vote out of loyalty. Meanwhile progressives are coming out strong against Biden with Gaza and now Tik Tok. This is 2016 all over again except the Hispanics are now voting for Trump. Progressive voters frankly are stupid. I just talked with a friend of mine who blames Biden not Trump for the overturning of Roe v Wade.

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
A lot more people are against Trump for much more serious things, many of the Gen z complainers don't don't vote reliably to begin with. Those that do will have their minds concentrated as we get closer.

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
Gen Z might actually vote for Trump based off polls. They like his swag, are young and therefore easily manipulated, don’t like Biden because of Tik Tok, things being more expensive, and Gaza (doesn’t matter what Trump has done or supports he is the other guy in their mind), and Gen Z seems anti-woke.

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
Not coming through on student loan relief was a pretty big hit among that gen too. He could have been their hero but instead it was just another empty promise.
Obviously I prefer Biden to the alternative and will vote for him again. I also think that the Dems have themselves to blame as much as the maga cult here though. We needed a successor who could promise that things would get better over the next four years. Saying they will stay the same just isn't gonna cut it.

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
What’s frustrating is that Biden is literally doing everything he can to relieve student loans. I mean I don’t really agree with the notion even if I personally would benefit, but I saw one of my progressive friends complain that the government went after Tik Tok before they relieved student loans and I am pulling my hair out because that is literally not true, but I don’t talk politics with people unless I trust they won’t lose their emotions.
That’s actually why I like talking about them here, even if I disagree, like with Shack, I trust everyone will keep their cool even if the topics themselves are a little more heated.

Gen Z may want Biden to better on some things, but in no way do I think majorities of them are about to support Trump.
"I hate the Israel invades Palestine, time to support a domestic terrorist for American prez!"

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
The people I have talked to think Trump is just mean tweets and do not understand the real danger he poses. I mean there is a guy he is thinking about putting in his cabinet that wants to outlaw recreational sex. Under project 2025 the president will have more power to do whatever he wants

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
As much as I dread it, everyone needs to understand how high the temperature is about to go. By October, everybody will know where Biden stands on student loans vs. Trump, everybody will know where Biden stands on abortion vs. Trump, everybody will know where Biden's economy has come through 4 years vs. Trumps, etc.
Biden appears to rapidly accelerating his energy and campaigning at the very moment Trump's legal issues seem to escalating. It is a horrific contrast for the GOP.

Man I hope you are right, but I just get 2016 vibes from this election except now Hispanics support strong man Trump.

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
Blaming Biden for student loans would be kind of ridiculous since he obviously tried and just wasn't allowed, but I wouldn't put it past progressives.
I don't think this will happen but if Trump actually outdoes the polls again and wins the popular vote, I would attribute it to a strange change in the atmosphere like superhero/Marvel movies suddenly becoming unpopular. Other than Palestine most of the anti-Biden stuff should have been there by 2022 midterm and I think his approval ratings had dropped by then, but they still did much better than Clinton and Obama first midterms.

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
Biden is a moderate in an environment that demands you either pass a progressive purity test or are Donald J Trump. The midterm elections have been different, but they also consist of people who give a shit and not just pretend to like purity progressives

social media isn't the real world, and remember, people vote with their wallets before they vote with their ballots https://www.yahoo.com/news/biden-big-ad ... 27233.html

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
Inflation is gonna be the key issue though, which most people blame Biden for. We know corporate greed alongside the overreaction to covid is the real cause, but its easier to point the finger at the president when he is trying to explain these things and instead falls asleep at the podium.

Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
Biden's student loan proposal sounds more reasonable this time around in my personal view. The government making interest of students education is lame.

Doing something about the interest would be a good compromise between people who are pro and anti cancellation.
