Post Re: International politics (China, Russia, UK, etc.)
Another important factor in this war is the sanctions imposed by the west. People were way too quick to claim the sanctions were not effective, seeing Russian oil skyrocket in price and laughing at the U.S. and Europe as if their sanctions were useless. But this has never been true. Oil has reduced in price now, and the sanctions are beginning to bite real hard for Russia and its military. They're running out of ammunition, equipment, and more importantly morale. I've heard stories of them dismantling household appliances to find the parts they need because they can no longer attain them on the international market. China cannot sell to them either because they will face sanctions (and as they did for the masks during Covid, they need to keep all their stuff for their own conflict in Taiwan), so Russia is turning to, lol, Iran and North Korea. It is doomed to fail. They're also now conscripting prisoners and abductees to fight on the frontline. There is just little good news coming from the Russian military side right now. It can only end one way; Russia loses but Putin doesn't (meaning he launches the nukes as his only way of showing progress). Unless someone assassinates Putin or there's a coup, I don't see any other way.

I don't really get Putin. I suppose that's all part of his strategy - confusion, never letting the enemy know what he'll do, etc., because after a week of strikes he said they've now done what they needed to do, but today they've done more strike using Iranian suicide drones. Also on civilians.

Putin suffers from SMS (Small Man Syndrome). When he lines up with other world leaders, it's so hilarious. He's like a hobbit. Take a look at this little teddy bear:

Spoiler: show

Now he's talking about goodwill and finding alternative ways out of this situation. I'm not sure if this is bullshit or genuine on his part, but it's certainly hard to figure him out if you overthink it. I think the man has too much pride. He knows he's losing so he's trying publicly with diplomatic ways to get out of it, but then when he's alone his maniacal side comes out and he inches towards the red button.

It doesn’t take a tall man to deliver poison to a politician.

No, the war will continue to grind on.

Wow, Liz Truss just resigned after only 44 days. In context of Brexit, its political mess, energy markets, global economic instability, the war in Ukraine, global conflict and instability, ecological and environmental instability symptomized by Coronavirus, monkeypox etc, the fossil fuel economy, the new economy, the global requirement for renewable energy, stalemate on climate action, and the climate emergency, this isn’t just symbolic, but reflects something historically significant.

I think it’s fair to say that and trace of the British Empire is gone with Brexit, Queen Elisabeth, Boris Johnson, and Liz Truss.

The liberal EU economic and political order is collapsing. America still believes in Empire, but it doesn’t even know or remember who it is anymore.

I can’t be surprised after her press conference the other day when she said her economic disaster of a plan “went further and faster than markets expected”. She didn’t even know how she would pay for it with higher prices.

Now after we're done with the daily quotas for raping old ladies (which is getting extremely hard due to viagra shortages), we have to turn to city dumps at night trying to find microchips and rare metals we can exchange for bread and vodka cards, 'cause all our devices are now gone for drones and missiles parts (last month I got 12 vodka bottles for washer, last week gave up TV for 24 bottles). And they'll probably send me to gulag for sharing this.

What's your take on the Russian evacuation from Kherson, Shack?

I've seen some claim they were afraid of Ukraine blowing up a dam and flooding the city

It's like 7:30 in Brazil and the votes are already counted (Lula narrowly wins). It's a joke how long it takes in the US in comparison.

Well, how many races were on that ballot? And does Brazil have a nationalized voting system in place?

There are sometimes as many as a dozen things people or amendments to vote for in the U.S., and it's done differently in every state, county, and city. And early voting and mail-in ballots aren't counted until election day, often not even until polls close that evening. And don't even get me started on reducing/eliminating ballot boxes or voting locations.

It's overly complex. And everything shouldn't be on the same ballot on the same day. I checked my sample ballot this weekend before I go vote tomorrow and I have 7 races and 4 amendments to go vote on. Ballots turned in on election day should be counted then, not after the polls are closed. And early voting and ballots that arrive by mail early should already be counted when they come in (at least a week, or ~3-5 days ahead or something).

I like that votes aren't counted till end of day. If people saw the candidate they wanted to vote for was losing they'd be less likely to bother voting

There are some huge non-war deaths recently.

In Somalia, 100 people are dead from twin car bombs. In India, 130 people are dead from a collapsed bridge. In South Korea, 153 people are dead from a Halloween stampede.

Rocket Man really wants people to notice him. He's just a troll. Launching more and more rockets until someone pays him some attention. Asia isn't a safe place to be this decade, what with all the natural disasters and multiple potential wars breaking out.

Russia just withdrew/evacuated Kherson, they claim it's part of military strategy but it certainly won't be good for PR/morale

There are conflicting reports / suspicions. The Ukrainians are concerned it's actually a trap, either by being a city ambush (Russian soldiers posing as civilians) or a mass wipeout via the dam explosion or a tactical nuke. If they have legitimately evacuated (and weirdly announced it, too) then it just doesn't make much sense to me. Ukraine should be wary.

Another pointless US-China meeting in Bali. They reiterate the same old things every time. "Work together", "red lines", "competition not conflict", it's boring, and China goes off and does the complete opposite anyway.

I think after the failures in Russia, China is starting to back down from their dogma, at least internationally, as Biden has done a good job getting the west back together

Without a doubt, yes. Foreign Policy has been a huge win for JB.

Biden's greatest success, in my opinion. His foreign policy has been cautious but firm, pro-active but reserved. It's also been strategically ambiguous, which a country like China hates. With a Trump, his cards are laid out on the table, turned up for all to see, which is just suicide in international diplomacy, particularly with dictators.
