She was saying she wished taxes were taken out without workers seeing the take out, so people wouldn't obsess over it so much. It is obviously impossible, but I get her point. They see FICA and have no idea what it is. Young people think they will not get SS. The right told my parents the same thing and me as well for decades. They are both collecting it now, and I am not that far from collecting it myself. I would prefer the opposite. That no taxes are taken out and come April people write a check for tens of thousands of dollars to Uncle Sam. That way they can contemplate all the wonderful things they are getting for their hard earned money. Of course, this will never ever happen. I don't want Social Security. I would actually be ok if they made my generation pay for it and not receive it with the promise that it will end when all of generation x and the boomers die off.
