Mitt Romney's VP is Paul Ryan
Quote:
Mitt Romney's campaign announced Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as the Republican candidate's running mate as he begins a four-day, four-state bus tour. Romney and Ryan will appear together at an event in Norfolk, Virginia, at 9 a.m. ET. Watch the event live on CNN, or on CNN.com.
Will not have a big effect however a safe choice...

Disastrous choice. He will scare the living shit out of the elderly, among others, with his desire to gut Medicare.
While not as spectacular, Romney has done just what McCain did: he has chosen a divisive figure who will electrify the far-right wing-nuts while alienating those undecided and closer to the center.

Also: though he's attractive enough, and I see they've addressed the Munster hair, I don't find Ryan to be a very compelling speaker. There's a dull quality to him. Consider the soundbite at 0:13 in the video the below:
It's meant to be a rousing line, but he doesn't sell it.

The GOP is increasingly less controlled by the establishment and more by the petty bourgeois vanguard right. Problem was that decades ago they decided to placate and appeal to the far-right's more demagogic tendencies, thinking they could control them. Plenty of conservative parties tried that before historically...it doesn't work forever and they wind up eating you.

Re: Mitt Romney's VP is Paul Ryan
The only logical thing for Romney to have done after this announcement would have been to call Obama and congratulate him on his election win.

Isn't that what the Affordable Care Act supposedly will do?
I like the choice but am not sure he helps much in getting votes, but then I do not think VPs do much to help win elections. Palin may have hurt, but once the market tanked, McCain was toast.

Ryan would be near the top of my list for future presedential candidates I would want elected. So very happy to see him get this potential boost to a 2020 run if he gets VP. Great day.
I think he's actually a good choice from an election standpoint for this reason, too: Romney's achilles heel is lack of charisma and inspiring passion. Having a young guy who looks sharp could help him out media wise.

Supposedly. It's bullshit.

It's my understanding the Affordable Care Act doesn't impact seniors' Medicare benefits, though I could be wrong.

Except Ryan isn't charismatic, lol.
A sharp, perfectly tailored presidential aesthetic has never been Romney's problem.

Well, a sharp, perfectly tailored suit has always been a problem for Ryan. Like, why can't this guy get clothes that fit? He always looks like David Byrne or something.

If I recall correctly, it cuts something like $700b from Medicare. Really I think it shifts that "savings" to pay for things like prescription meds and maybe to cover some low-income families. Plus the IAPB

Strategy wise, it's a good choice. He can help get the youth vote as a charismatic ideologue.
I would vote for him if he ran for president.

Obama is a false Prophet and Romney is an elitist.

Not funny.
Obama has never made a claim to being a prophet. Besides, he is an atheist and simply won't admit it publicly (those who say he is a secret Muslim are dip-shits). This is similar to his view on gay marriage. We all knew he was for it even when pretended to not be or to be passively against it.
