Excel wrote: Cruz and Rubio wouldn't be able to stop Trump, even together. Trump would obliterate them. It's honestly pathetic how poor the GOP's range of candidates has been.
They need to accept 8 years of Hillary. If they were smart, Paul Ryan will work openly and honestly with them for 6 years and then announce his run as a "new Republican". Otherwise, the GOP pipeline looks terrible. From what I've read of 1988 how people saw George H.W. sounds a lot like Hillary. He had all the qualifications in the world but they weren't that into him for emotional reasons and that lack of trust and communicating skill would have cost him almost all elections, but he had 8 years of Repub domination to piggy back off, and the Democrats side was at all time levels of suck. So he got in by default, but in 92 it caught up to him, among some other reasons

What a mess. Tonight's debate is, somehow, even more disastrous than the last.

And Trump changed any momentum Marco may have had in the news cycle.
Burn the mother fucking thing down. At least Christie is also a blowhard authoritarian like Trump. The guy he endorsed last time won too.

The only way they can stop Trump is a contested convention. It could still happen, since Cruz will win Texas, but they need Rubio and Kasich to win their home states which is very possible. If Rubio could somehow win California, there would be no way Trump would get enough delegates.

I think Rubio will eek out a win, but he needs to win somewhere else. Winning his home state will not be enough.

Actually, Obama floated the idea to nominate the Governor of Nevada who is a moderate republican, but he turned it down (probably pressured by the GOP establishment). I do think the GOP will later wish they had let Obama nominate him this time next year.

Re: Who Will Be President?
He took himself "out" because that was a lie and he was never under consideration. Obama would never nominate him. Never, not ever. It was political theater.
If there is one thing Democrat Party leadership cares about it is judges. Their last "miss" was Justice White and he only since his party had hanged by the time he was nearing retirement and not in the 60s or 70s. Democrats do not nominate Souters. Justices help implement their agenda and defend decisions of the left wing beuracracy and executive action (if made by a Democrat).

Well, I think he figured they would never nominate him, so even if he accepted it his nomination wouldn't go anywhere.

Obama was NEVER going to nominate him but I bet he would have been confirmed if nominated. This was just Obama's way to attempt to make the GOP look bad. I am considering buying a Maserati. Does that seem realistic?

Re: Who Will Be President?
Trump actually didn't do as well as the polls suggested today, but the weird thing is that by giving both Cruz and Rubio just enough excuse to stay in the race (and even Kasich for his close finish in Vermont), it should end up helping him anyway. Also how did Trump get his best performance from Massachusetts of all places?
On the Dems side, it pretty much went as expected, except for MA where Bernie really needed to win. It's not a knock-out punch, but don't see Bernie having a path to nomination at this point.

How did Bernie win Oklahoma? That was the most surprising result of the night.

Flava'd vs The World wrote: How did Bernie win Oklahoma? That was the most surprising result of the night. Two reasons, it is a very white state, and he also spent a lot of time there and Hilary just didn't. Bernie basically put all of his effort into 4 states, Oklahoma, Colorado, Minnesota, and Massachusetts (he knew he would win Vermont). At this point, that is all he can do is pick and chose, which is why he can't win, as the math doesn't add up. However, he has a right to stay in the race. I think he mostly just wants to get his message out, and he has moved Hillary more to the left. Now for the other story, the Republican party is in disarray. Rubio and Cruz might actually try to fight it out at the convention. I really think there are two possibilities, either we have a brokered convention (I have even read rumors that Mitt Romney might run probably as a sacrificial lamb) or they will run a third party candidate in as many states as possible so they can keep the Senate. If they go with a brokered convention while fun for political junkies, could destroy the party. Trump voters will probably stay home and Hillary will win in a landslide with Democrats getting the Senate back.

If Rubio and Kasich lose Florida/Ohio they should drop out that night or the next day. Could be a 1 v 1 race two weeks from now

Re: Who Will Be President?
Ben Carson dropped out, so we are now down to 4. I guess this could help Cruz some. Kansas, Louisiana , and Kentucky vote on Saturday and Cruz could capture at least two of them.

Re: Who Will Be President?
Just when everyone was hoping for some clarity in this race on the Republican side in particular, it has grown even more chaotic, and is in a state of disarray.
You have the GOP leaders openly attacking their own frontrunner (Romney doing so tomorrow, too), and some congressmen coming out in support of their frontrunner, at last (?), too. Of course, many in support are probably hoping to ride the coattails of record voter turnout Trump is largely responsible for.
The party is beginning to effectively split. If this race goes as far as the convention, surely the GOP doesn't think overruling the people's decision (Trump) in favor of a chosen candidate is the correct choice. Whoever that "chosen" candidate is would lose by default of party/establishment interference with democracy.
Also, Christie looked like a hostage during Trump's press conference last night. He's basically bet his entire political career on Trump becoming president.
