Trump is the most libertarian friendly recent president not because he’s perfect in that department, but when the alternatives are Biden, Obama and Bush, it’s hard not to be. He clearly has capitalism and individualism in his blood at least.

Post Re: 2024 election - Second Republican debate
He inherited his wealth and seeks to keep wealth in the hands who already have it via his one policy he had during his reign as president was a tax cut not on the payroll but for the upper wealthy and corporations. His executive orders were aimed at limiting Muslims from entering the country and restricting immigration at the border (most of which was thrown out in the courts) and his foreign policy was aimed at strengthening our relationships with countries ran by dictators in Saudi Arabia, North Korea, and of course Russia. His economic policies were bolstered on a trade war with China and his current economic agenda is to implement a stronger tariff on foreign goods.

The only Libertarian policies he held was on deconstructing the departments of the federal government and pushing for more private education platforms and deregulations which he attempted through hiring cabinet members that were antithetical to the department they ran (ie Rick Perry running the energy department) and ending entire departments (like the one in charge of monitoring foreign born viruses…whoops). And immediately some effective prison reforms.

However going forward a lot of this is giving way to Project 2025 where he aims to bolster the strength between his office and the various different independent sections of the government like the DOJ and the Fed by firing all those not loyal to him and hand picking his own people to push his own economic nationalist agendas.

He is kinda a disaster to the Libertarian movement after being its champion in 2016 and I am glad the party has the balls to call him out (unlike the Republicans who have given up on the conservative movement to make way for sucking up to Trump for a power grab).

More people need to get out of their party politics mindset and call this duck for what it is, a duck. Because if it walks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, guess what? It’s a fucking duck.

I stand by my take the main reason the Democrats aren't running the country in a central planning way like never before (exponentially more spending, major executive orders like cancelling debt or amnesties, abortion/guns, censorship, dramatically changing election rules, etc) is they can't cause they don't have enough Senate seats or progressive Supreme Court justices. I don't have any proof of that it's just my personal psychological reading that the Democrats are only stopped by can't, not won't, when it comes to how much the government "does" and are pushing up against the line of how much they're allowed to do at all times.

I think there is a bigger void on the Left right now than the Right at least culturally. Right now there is no true conservative ala Berry Goldwater or Reagan or Bush Sr (maybe a little of Bush Sr in Biden). Trump is completely antithetical to the conservative movement outside of the religious right using him to get judges on the bench they like

I would argue the people planting their flag on being anti-woke like DeSantis should be called reall conservatives in that they're trying to defend/conserve previous era's ideology against new one.

What's the lowdown on Michael McCaul? He seems like a decent dude. He just visited Taiwan a day after China encircled the country and warned the US about sending delegations. Ballsy move. I don't much care about his domestic politics but when a US politician - Republican or otherwise - likens Xi Jinping to Adolf Hitler, he gets my support.

Kudos where it's due. Biden called Xi a dictator, also correct. I like the one-upmanship at play here.

Trump needs to come out and call Xi a piece of shit, lol. It's his level, tbf.

Progressives are going to win the election for Trump. I like to get a diverse amount of media attention so I used to listen to the Young Turks, but they are too Left for my taste so I don’t really listen to them much anymore or much at all really, but I went over to go pop in on their comments section and my god are they fucking nuts with their logic. They really think Trump is better for Gaza or not as bad as Biden or don’t see the difference between Trump and Biden. I have a few friends who are “Genocide Joe” type people, and I had to argue with him why Biden is not responsible for the overturning of Roe v Wade (he thinks he could have stopped the ruling but chose to let it happen so he had something to run on). These people were all in the bucket for Biden before Gaza, but now they think he is more right wing than Trump.

Meanwhile Trump voters think Biden is a Hugo Chavez Socialist who wants to turn everyone gay or trans and lock them forever in their basements where he will take all your guns and freedoms and molest your children.

You can’t make this shit up. People are fucking stupid and this how we are going to end up with a Trump Family Monarchy (an exaggeration yes, but his family and his loyal followers and criminal buddies will be running the government, not professional who know what they are doing)

It's better this way since this case was such an obvious sham that it will wake people up that the Democrats are using lawfare to try to win the election

The fuck? Lawfare? You’ve been watching too much right wing mainstream media. That term gets thrown around so much in that vacuum of bullshit.

Reality is rigged unless it produces the results you want to hear. Trump who’s been doing shady shit for years before he even sniffed politics committed a felony? Get the fuck out of here, I’m shocked, SHOCKED, to find Trump committed fraud to help win the 2016 election.

The third world countries where current party in power comes up with some reason to arrest their political opponent, it happens all the time - that's what the Trump trials are mimicking. But it's harder for people to see it when they're on the other side, as I'm sure it is for the supporters of the party in power in those countries.

Problem with this theory is that Trump has been in court case long before he was in office or even sniffed politics.

You just have to be honest with yourself. You only have this opinion on Trump because he has an “R” next to him name. I used to be a registered Republican, but it shit like this that I can’t support the Republicans anymore.

No, the real reason I took the Trump side is I've always been an individualist contrarian type of guy, and the more I recognized the sheer amount of collectivism and thirstiness for social media groupthink type behaviour from the left the more it made me search out the holes in their narratives.

CNN is currently giving the conviction a negative spin. An interesting theory I have recently developed independently is that a lot of the major media networks want Trump to win because his stance on no regulations to big corporations. Currently Biden has been the largest monopoly buster in decades and is aiming to break up some mergers and go after Boeing as well. The Boeing stuff is being covered in the news, but the former you have to do some research to uncover. A lot of these media conglomerates have a stake in these mergers going through so they don’t want Biden to win. Going back and looking through the muck snd it starts to make sense. The Economy is actually doing very well and has promising signs for the future, but you wouldn’t know that from the media. And all CNN has reported on in the wake of this conviction is the Republican Party response and the foreign leaders who are very pro-Trump (namely Hungary and Russia)

He should get an insane fundraising boon but longterm I think this obviously hurts him, though its unfortunate that of all cases, this is the one that came first.

and good grief at his press conference? wtf. He is much more out of it than Biden, what are people are talking about

I really really wonder if Trump will even bother showing the debate. Biden is just 50x more with it.

Repubs should absolutely try to replace him with Ron or Nikki.

Excel is the only person trying to argue that Biden is “so totally with it” outside of the administration itself and the media they pay off.

The media is certainly not making the case for him being totally with it. He appears to be doing well at working across the aisle as he even got Johnson to agree to an Ukraine deal. Biden is vastly underrated as someone who is very competent by how he comes across on TV

The broader thing with this is that it reinforced an already known dynamic that daily life with Donald Trump is simply exhausting and filled with these types of stupid games. The guy constantly tries to ignore rules with everything everywhere, this is widely observed, and creates one issue for him after another. Call it political etc all you want, we do not need to worry about Democrats charging Nikki Haley or Ron DeSantis with a crime because they habitually cheat on their spouse and paid off a porn star about talk about it.

Best as I can see it, it is very clear that the vast majority of maga crowd is more into him as an idea than reality, scare frankly right now he is an utter mess. He absolutely makes Joe Biden look like Einstein in comparison. Quote me here now, I will be surprised if he shows up to any of the debates because my prediction is he will embarrass himself.

If DeSantis was the nominee I'd predict he would be in legal trouble for sending immigrants to Martha's Vineyard

No, those would be in the bucket of all the "crimes" W, Obama, and Biden have been threatened with. Trump's are more constant more severe, basic reality.

You can also see it with Musk and Space X getting legal stuff thrown at them, Musk is one of the people other than Trump who has done serious damage to the left wing ideological goals,
