Looks like the January 6th committee has referred the DOJ to charge Trump. Not sure if this will do anything other than be a big publicity stunt. But with Trump’s waning popularity, it is seeming more like the GOP is interested in using Trump as an excuse to start trying Democrats (or those associated with) for random things instead of protecting Trump. Dude looks cooked.

Not sure if it will help or just give him a bump. After the initial angry subsides, I am sure more moderates will start to think if he is even worth it any more.

It probably helps him stay relevant and become nominee, not sure if it makes a difference in general. Plus in the next year and a half there will be like 20 other Trump stories that overshadow it.

It might unite the Republicans a bit since DeSantis, Youngkin, Pence, etc. have all made pretty good statements calling it a political persecution.

I think you have to if you want to keep up with the Trump section of the GOP base which they need to win the general. If I were Pence, I would wait for the heat to cool off from the announcement and then make his name known

Moderate swing voters in 2020 and 2022 could not be more sick of Trump drama and his insufferable MAGA base- this fundamental dynamic badly damaged Repubs in both cycles. This might help rouse some support for him among his die hard base, but it actually just reinforces the inherent toxicity of his candidacy with everyone else.

Reaching for classified documents or Stormy Daniels charges in obviously politically motivated way, hurts their credibility for when they inevitably try to put him in jail for J6 or Georgia phone call or something.

My question is WHY did he, or anyone, take these documents? I guess I can "understand" a box or two or something (still weird) being taken out by mistake (still poorly handled) when a President moves out of the White House, but the photos of boxes after boxes in different rooms, stacked several feet high, and even up to the ceiling in one room, at Mar-A-Lago is very suspicious.

Clearly these were taken on purpose, that was the intent, and that's undisputable. There's no other explanation to why there are boxes stacked across many rooms, including a bathroom. And we don't know yet, this will be up to Trump and his lawyers to defend, but there is a very high chance of intent of using them in some way because WHY HAVE SO MANY???

He and his lawyers have quite the task to explain all this to a judge and jury when it, presumably, goes to trial.

I think this era will be one of those embarrassing moments in American history when future Americans won’t want to bring up the topic. Like Trump is so obviously a criminal unless you are in that mindset of trying to come up with excuses for him or you truly are caught up in the web of lies.

The one he'd to worry about is if they charge him for something J6 related because it would take place in DC instead of Florida, it'd basically be a show trial at that point with judge and jury being Trump haters going in.

Sorry, but people like McCarthy know that the GOP’s entire political strategy is to hold a kangaroo court in congress just to drag the name Biden through the mud as much as possible. If they don’t have the documents he was waving around this smoking gun tape is useless. You can come up with a plausible explanation that while showing the journalist relatively unknown details that make Milley look bad but not literally classified document, he half-seriously compared sharing this to declassifying things when he was president, but not being literal, if that makes sense. Maybe this is true, maybe not, but there is too much wiggle room, especially in a lighter tone conversation with laughing in between.
