It just always feels so comical, "Gladiator 2." If Ridley Scott could just say he wants to play again in the fictionalized-Ancient-Rome sandbox, it would be cool and exciting. Gladiator is an awesome film after all. But it just so hard to imagine how it is framed as Gladiator 2 or, ha, if/how/why Russell Crowe returns.

Many years ago now, one of my favorite rock musicians, Nick Cave (also the writer of The Proposition and Lawless), was commissioned to write a Gladiator 2 script. The result was reportedly an insane story following Maximus through the underworld.

In 200AD, did they have fat people? Crowe will need to go on a diet and hit the gym.

I'll take a new Roman Empire set film. Maybe throw in some Egytians.

This is a stupid fucking idea, but it doesn't really surprise since Ridley lost his mind a while ago. He has to do something if he isn't trying to ruin the Alien franchise anymore.

Gladiator 2: Maximus vs Leonidas. Tagline: "Tonight... they dine in hell"

I still haven’t seen Exodus: Gods and Kings.

Yeah. The last good film he made was ten years ago.

To be fair, the Martian was great, and his direction has not faulted even at worst. American Gangster was good. All the money in the world was received well (Though the Me Too movement may have been the biggest attribution)

I like that he still challenges himself at his age. The scripts aren't always there but he does shoot a beautiful picture, and the film is never what you would call atrocious His Robin Hood was fine, most of us just would rather say it sucks because we prefer Costner's or Brooks, or even Flynn's.

American Gangster was definitely the last Ridley Scott film I really enjoyed. Sure there is other stuff he has made that I didn't mind like All the Money in the World, The Martian and Body of Lies, but everything else after that was either a mixed bag or wasn't very good at all. I am still conflicted on Prometheus because I don't think it's a good Alien film, but I can enjoy it as a generic, sci-fi-horror film with some really good special effects. However, Alien: Covenant was utter crap and pissed me off so much that it makes me dislike that movie even more.

It's official, Gladiator is coming Nov. 22, 2024 for Thanksgiving and likely a pre-Oscar run.

Think this is going to do really well even without Crowe the film has a big fanbase so can still see $250M+ potential.

Without the original cast it’s indistinguishable from any other sword and sandal schlock. It will bomb
