Marvel/DC/Comic Book Movie Discussion - Majors arrested
What is everyone's general perception of these films? Do you have a preference for a brand? Are you looking for lighter fare (Marvel, imo), or darker films (DC, also imo)?
Have the recent X-Men movies figured out a proper balance between the two mediums? Because DC tried to make a "Marvel"-like movie in Green Lantern and it didn't turn out well and still ended up being pretty dark. Captain America 2 was as "dark" as Marvel has gone, but still rather light.
Do you prefer direct adaptations, like Watchmen? Or new takes on characters?
Can we have it both ways?!

 Re: Marvel/DC/Comic Book Movie Discussion
Thanks for the combined list. Ive been looking for one.
I like there to be a mix of both Marvel and DC, light and dark tones. They compliment each other.
I prefer Marvel overall - especially as they have a cohesive CU in place. Though that excludes the TDK trilogy which as brilliant.

I hope they start bombing so the retarded sitting on dates gets shafted up the ass.
Also we get to have summers and winters now filled with just comic book movies. Great for cinema.
I want more Kick Ass, Watchmen, Wanted kind of stuff not pandering Marvel movies and fuck off DC you're way too late.

The Rock confirmed he is gonna be in Shazam, didn't say what character he's gonna play.

I'm not up on my comic book characters or my movies starring basketball players...
So all this time I thought Shaq played Shazam in the 90s.

 Re: Marvel/DC/Comic Book Movie Discussion
The Female Spiderverse film is kinda strange. Surely the only female character they can adapt as a lead character in a stand-alone film would be Black Cat, right?
They could have used her appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to build up to her own film, but they certainly screwed up there. I think she has one, maybe two, lines in the film and is only addressed as many times if I recall.

I don't think Sony knows what they're doing. So... who knows.

 Re: Marvel/DC/Comic Book Movie Discussion
Sony are shit. I wish Marvel were able to somehow take back control of Spidey. Sony will keep cranking out crap for ever just not to lose the rights. I'd rather Marvel be able to incorporate Spidey back into the MCU and then make some individual Spidey/Sinister Six films.

What I am wondering...has there EVER been a major superhero movie for which the villain actor was announced BEFORE the hero actor?

 Re: Marvel/DC/Comic Book Movie Discussion
Apparently no one knows who owns the character film rights. All the sources I skimmed all agreed she falls into a grey area. Most think her story belongs in the Marvel/Avengers universe, though.

 Re: Marvel/DC/Comic Book Movie Discussion
Just let them do what they're doing. Because no matter what people will complain because people are stupid. If they try to connect them that will be "copying Marvel". If they don't and it's a great movie, people will ask why they didn't.

 Re: Marvel/DC/Comic Book Movie Discussion
Marvel doesn't own the patent on connecting films. DC is probably just kicking themselves in the head thinking why they didn't go along with a BVS film all the way back in 2000. Marvel had its set backs as well. It's not like IM2, TIH, Thor, and CA didn't have mixed reviews among fans, casting issues, etc.
I think the pressure/money of just committing to 5+ films has been given some ease thanks to Avengers. The whole series has to be on the solid scale and doesn't alienate the core comic book fans, as long as the JL film can get it together, they'll be fine.
MOS may not have had the WOM Iron Man had, but it didn't have to. As we've seen a well marketed Superman film will always sell. Adding Batman will only bring even more. DC still has the upper hand as far as heros go, But they have to realize that each film has to have more and more at stake where as Marvel went the standalone except for the group films. That's their biggest advantage.
For instance if in JL they all fight together but Superman or Batman dies in the end. They'll be set for another 5-10 years with how films can go.
