 Re: 2025 Contenders
If Madison becomes an A lister it would probably be 2nd most remembered of this decade, otherwise no.

The low grossing BP winners like Anora are always forgotten

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Exactly. At least average people are talking about Emilia Perez even if everyone I know save for one person thinks it was bad

 Re: 2025 Contenders
After thinking it over, I think Emilia Perez is still 2nd most likely BP winner.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Emilia Perez is DOA.
Looks like Anora is a lock but Brutalist/Conclave/ACU all outside shots.
I'm hoping that if Anora gets BP, Brutalist can get BD - even without the DGA.

Wrap it up. Neon should give it another release in theaters over the next few weeks before it lands on hulu.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Conclave winning SAG would be dangerous for Anora but I don't think it's going to happen, the actors probably love the idea of giving it to sex worker movie over old white guy pope movie.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
I have seen every English language full length narrative nominee this year in every category. I’m seeing I’m Still here on Sunday right before the ceremony. I’m gonna try to watch Black Box Diaries, Soundtrack to a Coup De Tat and Seed of the Sacred Seed before too, but even if I don’t get to them I watched more nominees than I ever have No Other Land and Porcelain War aren’t streaming or playing in any theaters near me. The only short that I know where to watch is The Only Girl in the Orchestra

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Who I think will win and who may spoil.
Picture: Anora (Conclave) Director: Baker (Brady Corbet) Actor: Brody (Chalamet) Actress: Moore (Madison) Supporting Actress: Saldana (Barbaro) Supporting Actor: Culkin (Pierced) Screenplay : Anora Adapted : Conclave Editing : Anora (Conclave) Cinematography : The Brutalist Original Score : The Brutalist
There is a chance for Braady Corbet to win BD as the Academy will be giving SEan Baker an Oscar for Best Pic, Screenplay and possibly Editing (he's the editor).

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Anora sweeps its big 4 and even took home editing too. Yuri is the only one who goes home empty handed.
Wish I could have seen the speeches but Hulu decided to end the broadcast after Best Director. Major fail by them. Hope the oscars revoke that contract and give it to netflix or amazon next year.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
I think it was the same mindset as last year where they favored the woman who was on screen nearly every second of the film rather than someone who was sharing the runtime with other lead performances (and Qualley definitely was the co-lead just as Dicaprio and Deniro were.)

Wicked and Dune will be the two movies remembered years down the road and they both got some good to brag about

 Re: 2025 Contenders
People only like it because they feel edgy supporting a film about prostitution. That’ll wear off quick.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Demi was snubbed horribly but the film will go down as a classic and she still had a huge comeback so whatever.
Anora feels like the type of movie that will be forgotten instantly just like that movie about deaf people a few years ago that also won big.

Hmm I don't necessarily agree, Margaret doesn't show up until about 1/3 of the way through. If you had to pick, she was definitely more supporting.

Barrabás wrote: Anora feels like the type of movie that will be forgotten instantly just like that movie about deaf people a few years ago that also won big. I just watched Anora (instead of trying to watch the Oscars) and I definitely agree. It's too bad it won everything, I think otherwise it could've aged well as a solid indie, but best picture of the year? What the fuck? I can think of 10 that were better, easily, and I haven't seen The Brutalist, I'm Still Here, Sing Sing, Nickel Boys, others. The movie was engaging and thought provoking but ultimately more stressful and headache inducing than emotionally moving or impactful (although the last scene does elevate it). The Substance, Flow, Challengers, Wicked, Dune Part II, A Real Pain, Civil War, My Old Ass, A Complete Unknown, I Saw the TV Glow, all were better. Conclave was very well done but kinda pointless. Weird fucking year for the Oscars. To think, 2 years ago they went with (what I thought) one of their best and most original winners ever, Everything Everywhere All At Once. Now we get.... Anora. Which I have absolutely no desire to ever watch again. okay.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Anora sweep is equivalent to if Poor Things had swept last year. Feels like most people like it because of its sexual edginess more so than anything else.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
I'm happy enough with Anora win, and Madison was the correct choice I believe. I'm surprised Culkin was never challenged the whole race by Borisov for a non BP nominated indie. Thanks to SAG for creating some doubt going into the night with the unnecessary Conclave win when Anora had really good ensemble.
