Looks like Nicole Kidman could miss Oscar nomination.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Incredible for Pamela Anderson, of all the actors i would think would never have a chance at getting major awards contention in their career she would be near the top.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Brutalist missing ensemble nom knocks it back down a peg. Still the front runner IMO, but seems to be a 3 horse race between it Anora and Wicked.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Dune getting snubbed at the dgas for a music biopic probably ends any hope for this oscar season.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Pamela went viral recently for looking like a normal mid 60s person so this may have helped her, plus the category was terrible, I had a feeling Babygirl was not Oscars type.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Current winner predict - Conclave. They want to vote for Emilia Perez but the internet talks them out of it and they can't talk themselves into Anora. Conclave rallies together the anti Emilia Perez/Anora/Wicked type voters like old British people and the people who miss the days with more stuffy Oscar bait type movies.

Pretty silly Dune and Challengers aren't really in the conversation. Had they been released later maybe.

I think A Complete Unknown would be more likely than Conclave

I think A Complete Unknown would be more likely than Conclave I considered it but I think the non American voters are key and they don't care about Bob Dylan.

There actually are good oscar movies out there and the academy is like "but what about Emilia Perez?" Emilia Perez doesn't even have a thread here on world of kj by the way. It would have been buried in the pit of the all the other shitty Netflix movies if not for this bizarre success at award shows.

I'm no religious man, but are the California wildfires proof that the Gods are unhappy with how this award season is playing out? Ok, you don't want to nominate Dune Part Two? Have fun living in New Arrakis.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
I saw Emilia Perez last night because i wanted to see why its done so well in awards season. I was shocked at how bad it was and do not understand how it has been nominated for so many awards, also the songs are so cringe and awful. How can this get a DGA nod and Dune 2 or Wicked could not? Part of me thinks the voters are just trolling.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
I think everything is changed in this campaign now. Uplifting stories are going to resonate with a lot more with Hollywood. Still not entirely sure how this is going to play out at nomination time.
Demi as the last real notable award speech I think now will win Oscar night and become a frontrunner. She'll become one of the biggest locks of recent years within a few weeks.

I agree they're going to want a feel good movie and not the Brutalist.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Anora still a shot? It's good but sure if it is BP worthy. Though in recent years BP winners have left a lot to be desired.

When was the last time the BP winner was a truly great film? Imo i have to go all the way back to No Country for Old Men.

I dont think its a masterpiece, not even in Nolan's top 3, but thats just my opinion. I do agree with it winning BP last year though.

Yeah well saying any film is a masterpiece is a matter of opinion. There are people who would argue citizen Kane is terrible probably

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Feels like Gladiator, The Departed, ROTK and No Country are more beloved than anything from 2010s on until Oppenheimer which has an argument.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
Yeah, I agree with that.
Oppenheimer (and maybe Parasite) being the exceptions to rather dull and unmemorable 2010s and 2020s winners.

 Re: 2025 Contenders
In retrospect, they should have given Mad Max the award in 2015/16. It is probably one of the best remembered films of that decade that also got some significant award attention without winning the grand prize

 Re: 2025 Contenders
In retro-retrospect, I think the performance of Furiosa showed that Fury Road is not as beloved as the reception seemed at the time.
