Sing Sing snubbed for awards juggernaut September 5, and didn't hit Maclin in supporting actor either.

They might go full Succession fans and have Culkin win and nominate Strong.

No Wicked in Director probably poor sign for its winning BP chances.

So The Substance is for real. I didn't like the film, but will always root for horror to shake up the stuffiness of award season.

Denis missing director at the oscars is gonna hurt though. Such a magnificent film in a pretty weak year should be rewarded.

The Substance as Musical / Comedy is hilarious. There’s dark comedy elements but goddamn, it is HORROR first and drama second. At least it got a lot of love here!

GGs should have made a Best Horror/Thriller set of categories instead of the stupid box office one.

A category like “Best Action or Horror” would be really fun.

Like the addition of stand up comedy category though it's hard to see them making a good choice often.

Anora is flopping with Madison losing to Moore and losing screenplay to Conclave. But I still think the Substance is wrong genre for the Oscars. Moore's great speech about being branded a popcorn actress could get her nomination though.

Demi Moore winning the Oscar would be pretty crazy but I dig it.

Fernanda Torres Best Drama Actress? Weak competition but starfucking with Jolie or Kidman is normally their style.

The Brutalist the winner of the night, Emilia Perez got comedy but if it was dominant it could've gotten Director or Actress, and I still think they don't want to give Netflix Best Picture.

Emilia Perez is really giving off energy like "we didn't like or even watch the movie but we like that its progressive." General reaction has been horrible. At least Crash and Green Book had some mainstream appeal with decent box office runs.

Really boring speeches overall but Demi was the star of the night. She has been among the biggest stars in the world for so much of her career especially the 80s and 90s that its sort of easy to take her for granted but that speech was memorable. I didn't even have her really in this race but lots of people will have her top on mind I think in Oscar nominations. The Golden Globes are usually meaningless for the Oscars but can raise the profile of certain film's campaigns. She feels like a darkhorse now.

Also, please let the Academy invite Halle to present best actor this year. I feel like there's a lot of comedy possibilities there with Brody back in contention.

If the Brutalist wins it will be this generation's version of an English Patient type winner that future generations thought looked boring and was the one they never watched from this decade.

English Patient really is such a drag. At least they had an excuse that year of a weakish oscar crop, with the quirky indie-type Fargo as the only other real contender (though Scream should have been nominated and won too.) Here in 2025 we have Dune sitting right there, one of the finest achievements in cinema history and its just being buried in the sand.

Don't most Academy BP winners nowadays fit this category 90% of the time:

Coda, Nomadland, Green Book, Shape of Water, Moonlight, Spotlight, Birdman, 12 Years A Slave, and The Artist?

I feel like the rarity is that they watch a BP winner to begin with. We just got more commercially interesting fare for the first time in ages with EEAAO and Oppenheimer.

The Brutalist is the only non commercial BP contender that looks interesting to me besides conclave.

Anora, Sing Sing, Emilia Perez and Nickel Boys all look super uninteresting to me.

It sounds like a trans version of a Green Book/Driving Miss Daisy/Crash type movie where the progressives aren't that cool with it and think trans person is just a tool to help the cis people's growth. But maybe it'll be pretty watchable, like Green Book.

As soon as I saw it I knew Demi would be a leading contender for the Oscar. It's an insane, brutal, physical, all exposed performance.
