 Re: Expend4bles
It's definitely the cheapest-looking of the series. It's not full-on Escape Plan: Hades level, but it's a noticeable notch down from The Expendables 3. The CG is often at the level of that 90s game, Duke Nukem. The edit is also weird, and the film is full of lots of jokes that aren't delivered well and don't land at all. 50 Cent is bad. He's so utterly wooden. There also isn't much of a point to the film. It's not like they wanted to make a fourth to do a major stunt (a la Mission: Impossible) or to include a major star (like the other three). It is purely another regurgitation, but on the cheap. They've spent on the marketing, but I see that all being to no avail. The big twist (of which there are two but you'll know which one I'm referring to) can be seen a mile away (they both can, lol), and the initial bait is so, so, so poorly done. It is just an odd experience overall. Pacing is all over the place. And it doesn't even feel like an Expendables movie insofar as the old music isn't used, and nothing apart from a little reference to Vilena (from the first movie) links the previous three to this one.
Megan Fox adds some titilation, I suppose. But she's not attractive. She is outclassed on the beauty scale by Levy Tran, and she often feels lost in group scenes even though she's supposed to be in charge. Iko Uwais kills a woman and a kid. He's a nasty piece of work but there's no craft to the film, no patience, no care given to the project so his nastiness doesn't really translate. He is basically just some nondescript henchman. The film feels scared to linger on anything. Even the new character of Galan, who is the son of Galgo from the third movie (Antonio Banderas), despite being labelled as the talker, doesn't have one memorable line. The film does have some adult humour and the gore is R-rated. So they at least tried a little. They just dropped the ball in all the other areas. The bulk of the film is set on an oil tanker ship, and while there are outside shots it does feel that 90% was staged in Bulgarian warehouses with dodgy CGI. They should have sold this to Netflix or Hulu.

I'd love to see the version that played in China, because in the movie it says "South Asia Sea", which I am sure China would not have allowed to play in their country.

 Re: Expend4bles
Oh it's definitely the worst of the series, but it doesn't deserve an F. It's bad but not the worst [movie ever] was my idea of what a D meant.

 Re: Expend4bles
This felt unnecessary to begin with, not that Ex3 wasn't good, but it was noticeably losing its spark and with the long time between sequels they should have let it be. However this part 4 is actually not that bad, far not as bad as critic reviews may be letting out anyway, but still, it's not good enough to not feel redundant either. It's just too much your average film with not very interesting action and plot. But the main problem is the cast, there's a lack of chemistry between most of them and individually they're just not good actors or not charismatic. Statham is good, and it's nice to still have Stallone and Lundgren in it too but the rest could all be missed or just flat out don't work. Especially Fox is just totally miscast, she's too present and brings the film down. Also Couture should have been canned somewhere in the second film already, he's got no presence but gets too much to do. And the villain is the worst in the series so far too. Yet, I don't think it's at all terrible, it's quite action packed and for about half of it entertaining too, it's not too long and it's return to an R-rating is a pleasant improvement again after the previous film. You can also feel this had quite the decent budget and with some tweaks it could have had some more potential too.

 Re: Expend4bles
Easily the worst of the series and for the budget tag it's absolutely cheap looking movie. Stallone and Statham clearly wants this to continue but this might be the final nail in the coffin for this series. I feel the audience have also moved on from the nostalgia.
