Quote:
Orphan: First Kill is a 2022 American psychological horror film, serving as a prequel to the 2009 film Orphan. The film is directed by William Brent Bell, from a screenplay by David Coggeshall, and a story by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Alex Mace. It stars Isabelle Fuhrman, Julia Stiles and Rossif Sutherland.

Originally with the working title of Esther, the project was announced in February 2020. The official title was revealed in November that same year, with Fuhrman reprising her role as Esther, co-starring alongside Stiles, Sutherland and Matthew Finlan.

Orphan: First Kill was released by Paramount Players in the United States on August 19, 2022, in select theaters, digital, and streaming via Paramount+.

It's impossible to talk about this movie properly without getting into the twist which is genuinely unexpected, happens sooner in the runtime than one might think, and turns this thing completely on its head into a hilarious and fun campfest. This movie definitely has no right being as good and entertaining as it is. I also thought the opening escape sequence was really well-done and suspenseful. It's not as good as the first which has crept up there as one of my favorite horror movies, but it's a worthy follow-up for sure. B+

Yes it's a worthy follow-up even though it can't touch the original. I like what they did with the twist even if it was jarring initially. Well played. Should have received a theatrical release. Grade : B/B+
