Re: Avatar [2009]
Wow it has been a long time we have seen an epic picture, you would have to go back to ROTK.
The film is visual masterpiece and I saw it on 3D, I can say this a film that really has surprised people, like FOTR...
An epic film and worthy of all its praises and easily the best film of the year.

Re: Avatar [2009]
I saw this opening night with high expectations and left disappointed. Very disappointed in fact. I wish I could see what everyone sees in this film. I thought the acting was mediocre at best, especially from Sam Worthington who was borderline awful, IMO. Sigourney Weaver was decent and Michelle Rodriguez was fun but that's about it, besides Zoe Saldana who was just wonderful. I think the big fault of the film was that I didn't believe in the romance at all and found that whole aspect boring. I also found Jack Sully a very, very dull character. Add in that the film is insanely unoriginal and predictable, it just wasn't enjoyable for me. The visuals and 3D... yeah, they were great and they can very well change how films are made. But great visuals do not equal a great movie.
5/10 ( C )

5/10 ( C ) Because it's James Cameron, that's why all the young boys are fondling themselves over this movie is cause of Cameron and if this were any other director making this, they'd a shit on it..

Re: Avatar [2009]
Despite it's faults (predictable, cliche, bad dialogue), Avatar is an extremely entertaining, well-made and engrossing adventure that truly transports you to another world.

Re: Avatar [2009]
i think i will watch this on my mobile phone which i don'T have to see if it stand the test of time basically and by that i mean the test of size, because lets be honest, size is what makes this hyped to much, if it can't hold up on the small screen then it will show its true face / colors because the story and characters will be what is left and i have to say that not much will be left then, not much at all it will be very downgraded to a little bit of nothing and then we will see that the movie is nothing but a bluff by ganondorf or whatever the guys name is because he has a big budget and uses it for some explosions and cgi stuff but he has nothing else, only money and there we are at the center of this whole dilemma: he only has money -> the movie only consists of money -> thereby the movie will make alot of money in the boxengasse und i think that this is the easy formula money is shown and makes money and other than that there is nothing more; and now we bring this down a little more with the help of prof. fleischermax' so-called "propel theories": >>money is only paperwork which is given artificial value<< (1882), now if we use this theory than we can safely say that this movie not only what i wrote above, i.e. a showcase of money to generate more money, but it is also the equivalencium of money itself: paperwork which is given artificual value: the artificial value of itself. because there is nothing but the expensive cgi, if you take it away you have a movie that is just nothing at all, just empty paperwork, as empty as sam worthington's face.

Re: Avatar [2009]
Even better the 2nd time.
I could focus on the story more, which is actually quite good. So..
Good Story + Amazing Visuals = Great movie!

A great film.
Although the colonial theme is a little been-there-done-that, I thought the story was pretty solid without being overly contrived/self-righteous. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone, like pretty much all of James Cameron's movies. heh

Re: Avatar [2009]
First of all, this cannot be fully appreciated in any non-IMAX presentaion. After initially viewing this in Dolby 3D with a feeling of slight dissapointment, my opinion on this has changed drastically after viewing it in IMAX. The difference between the two presentations were night and day and there's no way it would be enjoyed as much in an ordinary cinema.
Plot/characters - No real complaints other than being predictable, enjoyed every second of it. Neytiri is an easy favorite character because of her looks.
Visual effects (what matters) - Dazzling. It's very challenging to think that the whole environment of Pandora (creatures, plants) were 100% artificial. Neytiri simply stands out beautifully and on the Na'vi overall, the most impressive detail were their lips -so real. The use of colors was genius as well! The visuals are at their absolutely best during the aerial/flying sequences including the final battle scene. Whenever Neytiri and Jake Sully are on those flying creatures..just WOW!
Overall - While there was one, there's not enough emotional punch that make it an absolute perfect blockbuster that Titanic, Jurassic Park, Spider-Man 1/2, King Kong any many others are. However, with James Cameron's achievement on this on a technical level, I just can't not be blown away by this film.

If there were an IMAX in Alaska, it would black out what little sun they get.
