Hm, yeah, that was probably the only part of the film that was completely pointless.

Mero resturant trick & speech
Neo & Persephone getting it on in front of Trinity.
Neo vs Mero's guards
Morph & Trinity vs The Twins in the underground garage.
Kickass highway chase scene with Morph,Trinity,Twins,Keymaker,Agents & Niobe.
To finally Neo saving the day doing his Superman Thang. :D

The most exciting part of the film right there.

there's always a point to everything they (directors) do.

The only good thing about the movie was of course the FX's and the whole Freeway scene...everything else was boring....

Actually, sometimes things are gratuitous.

gratuitous was The Kid.
i couldn't stand him.
they should've left him in the animatrix.

Actually he was not gratuitous, he was supposed to have a purpose. It just didn't work.

Here's my breakdown of favorite Reloaded scenes, by the way:

1. The restaurant scene (it ended up as one of my very favorite scenes of 2003 too)
2. The highway chase
3. The Architect
4. The Burly Brawl
5. The final 20 seconds or so

The best fight of the movie to me was, surprisnlgy, the one with Morpheus against the agent on the top of the truck. The Burly Brawl comes in as a close second.

I wish they used more Twins action. Now those were cool characters.

in Revolutions yes and he was fine there (cept for the end scene) but in Reloaded he just sucked ass.
they should've picked a better actor.

Sadly, I finally read an article on this whole Larry/transsexual thing, and it makes me really sad and awkward. I'm going to look at the 2 sequels in a whole new light now, seeing he's probably one of the major reasons they took this drastic change in atmosphere from the first.

How so?

probably that whole HELL CLUb scene for one. ;)

I thought the Hell Club scene provided for a nice contrast between the world of Zion (the Rave scene) and the Matrix world (Hell Club). It was a good juxtaposition. I think both scenes work well. The only complaint I had with the sequels is the kid, but luckily his screen time is almost nil to none, and it wasn't THAT bad.

Anyhow, I'm not sure what the change of atmosphere is that the french man is referring to... I thought the sequels had a similar atmosphere to the first, or as much as should be expected. There were some minor changes as the series went by, such as less time being spent in the Matrix world as the series went on, but it fit the plot.

As for Larry's transsexual thing... I don't really care. It wouldn't affect my enjoyment of the films in the least, and not sure why it should.

Lastly, I do think some people were disappointed in Revolutions because they expected a typical Hollywood action ending, but I liked that these movies were not the norm. I see similar type endings in a lot of Japanese Anime - like Cowboy Bebop - where it's not exactly a typical happy ending. That's what I liked about both Reloaded and Revolutions... they are unique films.

Thinking about it now, this and the twins ( who could pass as trans females) remind me eerly of the whole Larry story.

Pretty damn good film till the to be concluded at the end, it took me 3 years to get over that. This one is way better than the third and one of the best films of 2003 :shades:

Reloaded isn't as bad as most people say. They just enjoy poking fun at it - sort of like Microsoft.

The movie's pacing is wildly off, but otherwise is a solid film. It's Revolutions that is sabotages a brilliant premise.

Reloaded violates the "show don't tell" rule.
Reloaded violates the rules of pacing.
Reloaded violates the rule about making dialogue specific. It's like asking a question about quarterly profits and getting your answer in x's and y's and partial derivatives.

Great action. Simply superb. It really keeps the movie afloat, as the intermittent scenes are just boring. Everything in Zion is just silly. All of the philosophy and computer lingo makes no sense. I still don't understand large chunks of the movie. The acting is decent, but nowhere near noteworthy. But the effects are terrific and the action fantastic. That makes it entertaining.

Post Re: The Matrix Reloaded
Weakest of the 3 films for me... spins its VFX wheels in one place too much. The fight with the Smiths and the highway scenes are pretty cool, but you could cut them in half or not include them at all and the storyline loses nothing. Overall I feel like the meat of the series is in the 1st and 3rd film, Reloaded's contribution comes down to:

- Preparing us for Zion war, introducing us to Zion and its characters
- Introducing us to the idea of programs, including the Merovingian
- Setting up multi Smiths
- Leading Neo to The Architect speech
- Trinity death storyline

And that's pretty much it. I'm not sure that's enough for an entire 2nd film. It comes down to telling us more about the Matrix and making the world more complex and then putting pieces in place for Revolutions, but there's not much that actually HAPPENS in terms of the pieces moving, compared to the first and third films. With that said I think a lot of what Reloaded does helps makes Revolutions a better film - which is funny cause most speak against the latter.

If it was me I'd have given Reloaded its own plotline and time period, then have the "Machines are attacking Zion" plot all within Revolutions, or just make it a 2 film series. I felt the same way about the Pirates sequels. Both series essentially split one movie into two with its sequels, with felt like a waste of a film to me when if they were more economic and less prone to excess, they could have two true sequels instead of one and do a lot more with their franchise and characters. But what do I know.

Post Re: The Matrix Reloaded
I still think about this movie and see ideas/interpretations in it that I had not seen before. Perhaps the way the story was presented could have been improved. Yet, it's probably the single most profound thing produced in human history. lol

I'm often suspicious when people interpret art/cinema etc. They often see things that probably were not intended. The way Reloaded is so self-concious though I think interpretations are warranted in this case. It seems to be made with the expectation that it will be interpreted and many interpretations seem to be deliberately supported by the film. I wonder how much I value it simply for being unique. If others tried to accomplish the same thing (and were actually able to), perhaps it wouldn't stand out as much.

EDIT: I was thinking about it, and I'm going to take back what I said about (most of it) being intentional. I'll post tomorrow.

This one trades story for action though manages to stay fun with many cool ideas expanding the world. It gets boring at times clearly showing signs that the story wasn't thought through or meant to be a sequel. The fight scene after the Oracle meeting and the one with Twins are pretty amazing even to this day. The three leads do very well but Zion and its characters seem to be shoe-horned into the story to increase some stakes and drama. Very entertaining in its own right but a step down from the original.

The Architect scene remains iconic and an extremely underrated twist tbh. That entire moment in the film, from Morpheus's "death can come for us at any time" speech while the people get unexpectedly killed, Trinity having to race into the Matrix, etc is superb and blockbuster cinema at it's finest. Also the car chase scene has not been topped since.

No it's true it's true
