Inside Out 2 becomes biggest Pixar film WW!
Premise is kinda weird but the animation looks great.
Comes out March 11, 2022, 1 week after The Batman. That's looking to be an exciting month for box office.
It's so dumb that Luca skipped theaters when I think it could've done pretty decent #s but with this and Lightyear next year Pixar may have a good year.

Re: Turning Red predictions - Pixar's return to theaters...?
If it gets good reviews on par with Inside Out, Coco or Soul it will be big, if it gets ok reviews like Brave, Cars, Dinosaur, Onward, etc. it will do mediocre.

It no doubt needs to move away from THE BATMAN

Re: Turning Red predictions - Pixar's return to theaters...?
It does not need to move away from Batman that movie will not impact it's target audience.
I haven't seen the trailer yet so I'll comment on premise later but March has been growing big in recent years so this will be a good slot for Pixar's return. Kids movies are doing really well though Pixar movie tend to older audience as well and post-March it won't have those big summer weekdays to bulk up it's total. The opening though will be BIG. $70m-$80m for sure.

This will play fine after The Batman. Reminds me of when Inside Out did big business with Jurassic World.

While this and The Batman could co-exist well - I see no reason for them to open a week apart. Two weeks at least makes more sense.

Set in Toronto? Also have Kevin Hart's film coming out The Man From Toronto next year. Will it be the "It" movie city next year? Looks fun and should do well globally and will sell a ton of merchandise. Excited to see Canada Pixar style.

Batman and Pixar have no overlap. This will do well if its really good.

Why? The 30-day window worked out great for Encanto.

Re: Turning Red...just kidding Pixar is streaming company
Yeah they honestly could've done the same thing. Think Disney is more interested in subscriber growth but them using Pixar as their streaming content is really frustrating. Can they go to another company lol god

Bob Chapek is literally the worst. Fuck him.
Who is gonna subscribe to Disney plus for Turning Red who hasn’t already done so for Soul, Luca, etc.
This pisses me off so much

And to top it off March looks even worse than before as The Batman is literally the only big major release. This could've done respectable business. Sing 2 is about to be the biggest grossing animated film since Frozen 2. Lol god

Theaters have made studios so much money for a century and this is how they repay them? It’s literally so disgusting. They literally haven’t even been trying to get people back to theaters.

Oh, Disney...
If they were intent on putting something new as a Disney+ original, in order to increase subscribers, it should have been Lightyear over Turning Red. As zwackerm said, who in the world is going to sub to them because of Turning Red? I want to see Turning Red, yes, but if I wasn't a subscriber already it wouldn't be the movie to make me join. Neither movie should be a Disney+ original, but Turning Red is going to have no impact on their numbers.

Corpse, there was literally 0% chance Lightyear was gonna go to D+ let's be real.

It was the only kids movie until Turning Red in March. Now I guess it's the only one until Sonic 2 in April. Could have been very leggy. It might still hold fine since there's nothing else to take the kids to but this definitely eats into its box office. Anyway it's ridiculous that everything Pixar is going to Disney+. They wouldn't dare sacrifice one of their movies.

I fear that all the D+ shenanigans will hurt the Pixar brand just like Adam Sandler's Netflix deal(s) made him Adam Who?...

This is lame. Disney should have utilized the same strategy they just used for Encanto. It would have been out on Disney+ in time for Easter weekend.

I've seen rumors that Pixar are really unhappy about this. Hopefully they sue like ScarJo lol

Re: Turning Red...just kidding Pixar is a streaming company!
Weren't they openly unhappy about Luca as well? There seems to be a lot more backlash against this happening for a second time (well, third), so maybe, just maybe, Disney will "compromise" and do something similar as Encanto and give it a 30-day theatrical run or something.
I'm curious how this affects Pixar's own profits. How much of a share do they get from theatrical releases, for instance. Because unless Disney is compensating them in some way, I would guess they don't get anything from their films going straight to Disney+? Or do they get some percentage share of some allocated amount based on how many people watched Soul or Luca?

It may have been since there are no big originals releasing between Boba Fett finale next week and Moon Knight on 3/30 that they think people will drop the service if they don't offer something in between.

Re: Turning Red...just kidding Pixar is a streaming company!
Looking at Disney earnings and language related to at home experiences, seems like Disney will go deeper on streaming vs theatrical. Wall Street is approving so... https://www.cnbc.com/2022/02/09/disney- ... nings.html“We do not subscribe to the belief that theatrical distribution is the only way to build a Disney franchise,” he said, pointing to the success of its recent hit, “Encanto.”
