Join this club if you think IF will win Summer 2024.

Family audiences are starved for a big movie, and (besides Garfield) it has 4 weeks to itself. Not a cartoon so bigger draw for adult audiences, Good writer/director John Krasinksi and original premise suggest it could be a good movie with great legs. Ryan Reynolds is arguably one of the most reliable box office draws.

Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 are 3 weeks apart so will prevent each other from ruling the summer. Deadpool & Wolverine is also its biggest competition for the top spot, but it’s R-rating will be what makes IF stay ahead.

Who’s in?

No way. Audiences don't want original films despite their claim to the opposite.

Deadpool will probably win, maybe Despicable Me or Garfield with Twisters (and hopefully Horizon) as the wildcard.

That would be cool but after stuff like Barbie and Mario dominating last year my take would be that people want IP they've heard of before, it just can't be superhero. They're not quite ready for full original blockbusters yet. So Furiosa and Garfield could be a decent pick.

Love the chutzpah but I think this is more likely to gross sub-$50m total than win the summer. To me it looks like the movie (or at least its advertising) is aiming for all quadrants and genres and lands in none of them successfilly. Unfunny, not interesting or exciting, somehow dull despite the premise, too everyday to be fantastical, overall vibe is awkward, inscrutable and uncomfortable.

But... it looks like shit? Idk who this is appealing to but maybe familes will flock to it idk.

I went with Wolverine but usually those big films open well and have short legs, so DM4 or IO2 will probably do the best.

IF doesn't stand a chance. Garfield will double it.
