publicenemy#1 wrote: Curious to see how Mean Girls holds. Its holds through the weekend seem fine but I feel like it'll sink. Yeah I don't think it will hold great despite lack of competition. Word will get out that it's a musical. It got a decent CS but I've heard a lot of bad things from people who went and did not know it's a musical. It seems most people I've talked to and mentioned that it's a musical had no idea. But if that many people didn't know it seems weird that they went to see it thinking it was just a remake. Who would want that? There's no topping the original. Regardless, I'm sure Paramount is very happy they didn't skip a theatrical release and just send this to Paramount+ like they'd planned. But yeah, a sequel with the original cast would probably do 200 Million. I just don't see how they can make a sequel to that that's actually good.

It'll probably do about a 2.8 multiple with a big drop in week 2 but level off after that.

Migration had a great Monday (+3% with most movies in the -35-40% range)

Oppenheimer also quietly had a sensational limited re-release.
$372,670 139 $2,681 ($489,435 4day)
That's it's best PTA since week 6 in August. If enough people see it leading up to the Oscars and shortly after could perhaps add some decent $$.

I think they'd have to introduce a new villain, and the twist is that Regina and Cady end up being friends are now pitted against the new 'mean girl'.

Re: Jan 12 - 14 #'s
So basically neighbors 2. Bad Moms was already basically a Mean Girls spirited sequel.
There’s no doubt potential is there, but the only one that really needs it is Lohan, now I’d be more excited if Fey wrote mean old women and it took place in an old folks home. Those can be very cutthroat and clicky, lol. That would surprisingly be more fresh

Tuesday #'s
1. Mean Girls $2.1M $35.71M 2. The Beekeeper $1.7M $20.44M 3. Anyone But You $875,000 -31% $57,614,839 4. Wonka $847,763 -24% $179,736,633 5. Aquaman 2 $534,393 -44% $109,864,934
The Book of Clarence $236,000 $3,241,358 The Color Purple $142,480 -66% $58,344,780
Pretty great for The Beekeeper. Almost certainly will be the #2 movie for Statham in the headlining role in an original movie. If it holds well though maybe it has a darkhorse chance to get to Meg 2's box office.

Beekeeper feels like a mini Taken. Surprise January action hit.

Interesting comparison that I hadn't thought of. Statham is about the same age Neeson was when Taken came out 16 (!) years ago. Maybe he just sneakily transitioned into the new old guy action star when we weren't paying attention.

Re: Jan 12 - 14 #'s
I definitely would've guess 48 or 49 for Statham instead of 56
Very nice for the Beekeeper though it fell a lot on Monday

Statham just feels younger than Liam did back then. 2009 looked weak on paper but served up a number of big surprises - Taken, Paul Blart, Hangover, Blind Side, Star Trek, Sherlock Holmes, The Proposal, Fast n Furious, Inglorious Basterds, District 9, Paranormal Activity and offcouse Avatar. Would love this year to do the same even if unlikely.

1 Mean Girls $1,400,000 $37.1M 2 Beekeeper $1,100,000 $21.6M 3 Anyone But You $610,000 -41% $58,215,048 4 Wonka $515,000 -35% $180,251,633
-Aquaman 2 $345,000 -49% $110,209,934 -The Book of Clarence $172,000 $3,412,230 -The Color Purple $120,000 -68% $58,464,780
Harsh drops all around. ABY will go into next weekend with about $59M. Needs an exceptional post MLK hold to still keep $100M as a possibility. $85M+ though looks good.

I was looking at the calendar and gosh, the next month and a half until Dune is going to be tragic. Wouldn't be surprised if another random foreign movie ends up at #1 at some point.
