Trailer just came out and it looks like it will live up to the hype.

I'm seeing $200M+ for it even without Max in here. Mad Max 2015 was universally acclaimed and caught most off guard just how good the movie is. Think a lot of people have discovered it over the past 8 years and with 9 years of inflation we're in for a mega performance.

Felt very CGI but something has to be a blockbuster next year so I guess it might as well be it. I like the villain Hemsworth addition.

Agreed on the CGI. I was hoping for a more Fury Road feel. They did film in location in AU so at least it's not a green screen driven movie.

So next year we have even more female-driven action films. When will studios learn? Having said that, this looks more likely to be a success story because it doesn't try the girl power thing of having a woman kick the asses of six guys, a la Atomic Blonde ... though I'm worried for Ballerina.

But not having the confidence in Furiosa alone is eye-roll worthy. This is a female story but they're still selling it with a man's name in the title - and he's not even in the movie! It would have been like Joker being titled "Joker: Batman's Nemesis" or Venom being "Venom: The Spider-Man Villain". Have some bloody confidence in your product! They'll probably claim it was to avoid confusion with being the new Fast and Furious movie, lol.

Other than that it looks decent. Hemsworth is perhaps too dashing and good looking to be in the role. I hope he's more evil and outback crazy than what we saw in the trailer.

I'll go with a $125m gross for now.

There are some better examples like:

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

That did $760,732,926 globally in 2019. Higher than Fast 9's $726,229,501 in 2021 (of course impacted by the pandemic) and FastX's $704,709,660 earlier this year.

Saw the trailer during Dune and honestly it looked like a cheaper version of Fury Road with nothing new to make it stand out. Audience reaction seemed pretty muted as well.

I could see this underperforming with an OW in the low 30s tbh

Furiosa will be going to Cannes.

Horizon will also go out of competition. Hope that's a positive sign for both films.

Now that Furiosa has great reviews and the marketplace will need a hit do we have the leading candidate for summer breakout?

I actually think it will underperform. I don't think the online love for the last one really translates to the real world and nor do the trailers for this one. Feels more removed from the Mad Max saga which is inline with a spinoff.

A mid $30's OW would be high end for me and it will also be beaten by Garfield over it's OW.

Yeah I don't think anyone really cares here. Fury Road was 9 years ago, and it was hardly some smash hit

Presales are not bad at all. Garfield being a family flick has no presales at this point beyond early shows this Sunday at 1PM which is just regular shows and so probably looking at 500K gross.

Furiosa is pacing towards 5m previews. I think it can do 50m over 4 days. Especially if reviews are strong.

Guess I’ll pass on my Furiosa wins the summer club

I think the love for Fury Road is a lot higher than people realize. 3X multiple from a 30 year gap between films. There are going to be a lot of walk ups on this one, especially over a long weekend.

Even as a spinoff, it was an incredibly well received predecessor and will have some goodwill rub off here.

I thought there was a lot of "Fury Road bros" out there

I figured this would also be a giant cinematic event that appealed to Nolan bros and Villeneuve bros. A must watch on imax type of thing. Just matching Fury Road's opening would be kinda disappointing to me. Hoping for $60M+ 3 day from both Furiosa and Garfield next weekend.

A direct sequel would’ve done much better. This looks like an unnecessary spinoff greenlit when everyone was trying to have their own cinematic universe

$40-$45m 4-day is achievable but again not surprised if the 3-day is mid 30s at best. Perhaps it picks up some momentum due to the good reviews and empty market. We'll see.

Agreed. Fury Road provides resolution to Furiosa's character arc and also touches on her origins so this feels unnecessary almost. I'm sure it's good and there's a narrative reason for the prequel, but from a marketing perspective not a good starting point.

Hypothetical, how much would a Furiosa with Theron do vs this version (closer tie to Fury Road but also Max free)?

Big miss. Let’s call this the Lightyear effect. When a movie recasts an iconic role played by someone older with a young Hollywood unproven star and the film flops.

The masses don't want female action stars. Never have, never will. I guess studios love burning money in the name of "progress".

Not true, Aliens, T2, Tomb Raider (with Angelina), Wanted (again Angelina), Hunger Games, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, there are plenty of cases.
