DHD reports $6-7M in previews. They give the caveat it could go higher or lower so not sure what to make of this yet. Could very well be a lot more.

Saw on BOT that this may include both the Sun and Mon previews. Fallout had $6M in previews for comparison.

Post Re: MI Dailies
If it lands between $6-7m from Tuesday previews (which begin as early as they can, I think?) plus whatever it made on Sunday and Monday too... Seems pretty poor.

Having showings begin at 2pm on a Tuesday should have been an advantage too, considering its discount day. I know the tickets in its case wouldn't be discounted (right?), but more people still go to the theaters on Tuesday and would see it's playing.

However, opening in the middle of the week makes predicting how the week will go more difficult. Might just have to wait and see what it looks like after a few days in release.

I saw a 3pm show today and the tickets were discounted ($6). Agreed that it had a full day of sales "previews" it should be a lot higher than 6 mil.

What was the last big Wednesday opener to have previews on Tuesday? I thought Mario, but apparently it didn't have previews. More tickets are sold on Tuesdays of course, and we see every week now that even with them being ~40% off, that the increase in attendance more than makes up for it.

So, yeah, you'd think a big film opening on Wednesdays now would benefit greatly with previews on Tuesday. Even seems surprising studios haven't been trying to aim for this with their blockbusters more often as it could result in pretty huge OD results during holiday weeks/summer.

Post Re: MI Dailies
MI has 10 days to make as much as humanly possible before B+O so hoping it really picks it up this weekend.

Some demo data about Fallout for reference from 2018:
-IMAX was 12% of Fallout's OW
-41% men 25+, 17% under 25
-33% females 25+, 9% under 25
-55% male, 45% female
-82% 25+

Loss of IMAX for 3 weeks, and the hit of B+O as a heavily adult skewing movie is not going to help.

A completely unexpected competitor, if Sound of Freedom continues its run and somehow really balloons this weekend, going to take some business away in major population centers in the South like FL and TX and across the heartland which is an unexpected wrinkle.

Should be close to 8.5m. Early Deadline estimates are crap.

My theater was not even half full. I'm guessing just a hair over $6M for previews. Hopefully people will turn up over the weekend.

I doubt most people even knew it was "previewing" on a damn Tuesday. The numbers will obviously pick up. But don't forget that this will be a backloaded film. It's not all about the opening. All reviews I've seen so far have been very positive. The general tone is that it's a "must-see at the cinema" type of film, which can only help its legs.

Tuesday #'s: (From ER Twitter)

- MI $7M - Actual TBD
1. Sound of Freedom $3,829,243 $49,497,837
2. Insidious $3,486,701 $40,006,911
3. IJ5 $3,460,627 -70% 128,821,214
4. Elemental $2,111,510 -25% $113,303,721
5. Spider-verse $1,487,439 -43% $360,445,129
6. Transformers $754,710 -54% $148,274,679
7 No Hard Feelings $753,125 -50% $42,104,836
8 Joy Ride $722,763 $7,090,944
9 TLM $658,816 -44% $290,522,732
10 Ruby Gillman $581,880 $12,685,310

11 Asteroid City $306,440 -69% $24,675,105
12 The Flash $254,183 -76% $105,777,685
13 GOTG $118,702 -73% $357,834,108

Elemental is only down 25% from last Tuesday which was JULY 4th (holiday)!? Can it possibly go up this weekend?! No other movie came even close to that type of hold.

Sound of Freedom is at $50M now after 8 days. Could be at $75M+ by Sunday (day 13). There's an off chance this is heading for $150M+ if the hold is spectacular which I expect it to be this weekend.

Go Elemental! I wonder if it's really families that are keeping it alive as it kinda plays more as a good date movie lol

$7M, without the Sun/Mon previews, is decent for MI. Not a huge opening, but consistent with Fallout, and it will likely land in the $190-$225M range that most of the films have been in.

I could use this time to bring up how this, one of the weaker entries in the MI series, is still better than Maverick and making at least 3x less than it makes no sense, but whatever. We'll just have to take Maverick as an outlier.

Lol Sound of Fraudom continues to roll. I wonder what people in the future will think when they look back on its run.

I mean, MI will be arbitrarily putting Sunday and Monday preview #'s where convenient so feel like box office number counting always has an asterisk on it though Sound's total box office is going to be up for lots of debate in the future. We have had movies in the past bought by people and given to schools so as long as theaters are getting the $$$ and its helping the doldrums of a slower than expected time at the box office there are benefits.

Lots of fun hypotheticals though on what this could lead to. If Elon wanted to fund and distribute his own biography movie and gave away tickets for free to all Tesla drivers, would that lead to a $100M+ Elon biography?

DHD lists $16M as well. This is 16 minutes longer than the last MI movie so definitely not something a lot of people have time to watch in the middle of the week. Weekend should be much better.

Sound of Freedom is looking at $3.9M on Wed. UP from Tuesday. Down 3.65% from last Wednesday. If it somehow carries forward that drop to the weekend, could get to $18.96M 3day weekend and $75-76M by Sunday. If that happens, then we're dealing with a whole other box office trajectory.

People still aren't grasping the concept of a film being backloaded and having legs. This is what M:I does. There's no concern.

This physically can't really have the same legs as fallout and rogue nation because next weekend is going to be enormous and take away its premiums and a lot of its screens.

This is approaching www territory. Looking to almost certainly sell less tickets than Fallout despite the empty marketplace, amazing reviews, Fallout’s good will, and Tom Cruise’s good will following Maverick.

I really don’t think there is any Maverick spillover. That film worked following years of pent up demand and nostalgia where as the MI films tend to have a set limited audience.

I would say Maverick is an outlier and it’s historic success is in the same as Animal Crossing: New Horizon in that it benefited from being the right piece of media for the that particular stage of the pandemic. If Maverick is released this year or in 2019, it would struggle to get to 150m.
