TMNT/MEG 2 weekend thread
$3.85m
Deadline article isn't saying if this includes all the sneaks from Saturday/Monday. If it doesn't seems like a decent #.

Re: TMNT previews
Reviews and audience reaction so far seem very positive. This feels like it could start slow and then build up interest over the next few weeks. Burned by a lot of mixed turtle movies.
In other news, Barbie has surpassed Spiderverse and is now #1 movie of the summer after just 12 days. Made $15,250,000 (-41%) for $381,672,042 total.

Re: TMNT previews
Ouch at Elemental down over 50% from last week. Makes sense, playing like one showing at a lot of theaters near me. Guess it'll settle in the 150s.

Re: TMNT previews
Overall OD was $10.2m. Seems solid, as there isn't much for children coming up think this could play for awhile.

Re: TMNT previews
They are still sitting on 2.2m from early gross. I wonder if they will club it together with Friday like studio did it for MI7. Its looking at hefty drop today. Unless they pump its weekend up, its not beating Oppy for sure.

Re: TMNT/MEG 2 weekend thread
Hmm, a bit underwhelming for Barbie. I expected at 60m+ with a 35%-drop. It has absolutely great WOM and no competition, so I expected something between 60-63m. But maybe actuals will be higher....

Re: TMNT/MEG 2 weekend thread
Its weekdays have been great and burning through a lot of demand, a drop in the 40s is still great.

Re: TMNT/MEG 2 weekend thread
Decent for Meg but its still a flop with its $185M budget. Maybe, if they do adapt Primal Waters, they should spread that budget throughout the film instead of saving it all for the end. Oppy having a better drop than Barbs shows the power of imax.

Re: TMNT/MEG 2 weekend thread
185 million? I know The Meg would’ve made money with that budget, but there had to be some foresight that down was more likely than up here.

I don't know where that $185 million went. It looks like absolute shit.

I think a lot of budgets got OKed a few years ago under the assumption that the China money train would never slow for Hollywood, although in this case they at least had co-financing with China so they might get more of a cut of that money at least.

Re: TMNT/MEG 2 weekend thread
Also budgets ballooned during the pandemic years. Remember, a lot of these productions date back to that time period. One of the reasons Sound of Freedom was so cheap was because it was made prior to the pandemic.

A large part of the production budget would have been siphoned off to elites or bribes, and a fraction was actually spent on the production. So they make it on the cheap but still report the high budget.
